'CSK will miss Suresh Raina, but...': CSK's Chief reveals why the team didn't buy China Thala!

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is around the corner as the teams are all set for the battle. With the mega auction completed, ten teams are shaped with the final squad after a war between each other to acquire the players they wanted. Each team has released the final list of the squad and besides celebrating their teams, fans had a shocking takeaway from the mega auction that former India batsman Suresh Raina wasn't bought by the Chennai Super Kings.

Raina is one of the highest run-scorers in the IPL and he had been instrumental in every success of the Chennai Super Kings. He had played most of the season of IPL with Chennai and for this year, the CSK management didn't tag Raina in the list of retained players due to which Raina came to the table of trade. The auction was held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13 and when Raina was auctioned, CSK didn't buy him and the team has also lost brilliant batsman Faf du Plessis, who is now bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

While the CSK fans questioned the management why it didn't buy Raina, it has now revealed the reason why it hasn't bidded for Raina during the auction. Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanath has on Monday revealed that CSK did not acquire Suresh Raina as he may not fit in the current team's composition. By admitting that Raina has been consistently performing for the team, the Chief said that not having Raina in the team was very difficult.

Suresh Raina, who had a base price of Rs 2 crore, went unsold in an IPL auction for the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League. In a video shared by CSK on their YouTube channel, Kasi Viswanath said, "Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, not to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that's one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this stream."

Kasi Viswanath further said that Chennai Super Kings will miss Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis. He said, "We will miss him, we will miss Faf who has been with us for the last decade, that's the process and dynamics of the auction." The CSK had brought a lot of players including Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, and Robin Uthappa back from their 2021 title-winning squad, but did not put a bid for Raina. The former India batsman is the four highest-run scorers in the history of the IPL with only Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan occupying the top three spots respectively.
