From Dada to Good Night... Debutant directors shine bright in 2023!

In the evolving Kollywood trends, 2023 has emerged as a landmark year, marked by the promising debut of several talented directors who have made a strong and lasting impression with their inaugural films.

Ayothi - Manthira Moorthy:

Debut director Manthira Moorthy's "Ayothi" has graced the screens with a compelling narrative, starring M. Sasikumar, Yashpal Sharma, Preethi Asrani, Pugazh, Anju Asrani, and the young talent Master Advaith Vinod. The film takes the audience on a riveting journey to Rameswaram, where a North Indian family encounters a series of mishaps, only to find an unexpected savior. With music by N. R. Raghunanthan, cinematography by Madhesh Manickam, and editing by San Lokesh, "Ayothi" promises a captivating and soul touching story.

Por Thozhil - Vignesh Raja:

Vignesh Raja makes an impactful debut with "Por Thozhil," a gripping tale that follows a rookie cop teaming up with a seasoned officer to unravel a series of murders. Starring R. Sarathkumar, Ashok Selvan, and Nikhila Vimal, the film is a relentless pursuit of a brutal serial killer. Jakes Bejoy's background score adds intensity, complemented by the cinematography of Kalaiselvan Sivaji and editing by Sreejith Sarang.

Koozhangal - PS Vinothraj:

Under the banner of Rowdy Pictures, director PS Vinothraj presents "Koozhangal," produced by Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara. The film, featuring music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, unfolds a poignant narrative as a man embarks on a scorching journey across the Tamil Nadu desert to rescue his wife from domestic violence.

With cinematography by Jeya Parthipan and Vignesh Kumulai, and editing by Ganesh Siva, "Koozhangal" has garnered international recognition and was India's entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

Good Night - Vinayak Chandrasekaran:

Vinayak Chandrasekaran debuts with "Good Night," a unique story revolving around Mohan, an IT professional grappling with a snoring problem. Starring Manikandan and Meetha Raghunath, the film explores the challenges arising from this seemingly mundane issue.

Supported by performances from Ramesh Thilak, Raichal Rabecca, Balaji Sakthivel, and Bagavathi Perumal, "Good Night" offers a fresh perspective on the couple's psychological hurdles.

Irugapatru - Yuvaraj Dhaylan:

Yuvaraj Dhaylan's directorial debut, "Irugapatru," has struck a chord with audiences. Released on October 6, 2023, the film features Vikram Prabhu, Shraddha Srinath, Vidharth, Sri, Abarnathi, and Saniya Iyappan. A marriage counselor's life takes unexpected turns due to her own methods, unraveling the complexities of two unhappy couples.

DaDa - Ganesh Babu:

Ganesh K. Babu steps into the director's chair with "DaDa," a heartwarming tale of a college student embracing fatherhood. Starring Kavin and Aparna Das, supported by K. Bhagyaraj, Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran, and VTV Ganesh, the film explores the challenges of single parenthood with compassion and resilience. The music, composed by Jen Martin, adds an emotional depth to the narrative.
