Death Penalty for Nibhaya convicts- A TN cop volunteers to be an executioner!

Amidst the anticipations that the four convicts of the Nirbhaya rape case would likely to be executed soon as the Ministry of Home Affairs is under the process of recommending the President to reject the mercy petition filed by one of the accused, the policeman from the state of Tamil Nadu has now written to the Director-General of Tihar Jail where he has said that he is keen to volunteer the job of an executioner to hang the four convicts and through this letter, he offered to perform the job at the gallows without any payment.

The policeman named Subash has been working with the Tamil Nadu police since 1997 and currently, he has been placed in Ramanathapuram and with the view of sending a strong message to the people committing such inhumane and brutal crimes, he had extended his interest of volunteering to execute the convicts of Nirbhaya case. The reports say that Subash's letter had gone to the attention of the Director-General of Tihar Jail and he awaits the response from Delhi.

He has written to the Tihar jail when the prison complex has a shortage of executioners that had occupied the major part in delaying the death penalty for the four inmates as most of the people have been denying to take up the job and the previous cases of Ajmal Kasab, Yakub Memon, and Afzal Guru had met with similar scarcity of executioners. Speaking to the IANS, Sandeep Goel, DG of Tihar Jail, said that despite the absence of the authorized executioner in the jail complex, it can be managed by hiring an executioner from the nearby state as this job doesn't fall under the requirement of special authorization.

The reports say that the Ministry of Home Affairs will most likely recommend the President to consent for the death penalty after the Delhi state government had rejected the mercy plea filed by one of the accused Vinay Sharma on last Wednesday. By rejecting the plea, the Delhi government has said that there was no room for any review in the light of the extreme brutality involved.
