Amid the uncertain developments that spurred from the murder of Trichy BJP leader, the city's police commissioner had, on Thursday, asserted that Vijay Raghu was murdered due to the personal enmity and vengeance. The statement has come a day after the special police team had detained the suspects in Chennai.
While addressing the reporters, Trichy police commissioner said that Mohammed Babu who is also known as Mittai Babu had killed Vijay Raghu for personal hostility and stated that the suspects were produced before Trichy court following which they have been taken under judicial custody and lodged in Trichy central prison. The sources have revealed that the police had detained five people in connection to the murder and they were identified as Mohammed Babu (24), Hariprasad (20), Sudarvendhan (19), Sachin (19), and Mohammed Yasheer (19).
The police department had ratified personal enmity as the motive behind the murder while the BJP leader H Raja, on Wednesday, alleged that Islamic terrorism has been rooting up across Tamil Nadu from the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He further cited that Vijay Raghu was killed by such elements and the police have been undermining the issue by initiating some efforts.
H Raja had met the family of the deceased leader in Trichy and he provided Rs 50,000 as solatium on behalf of the BJP. He further condemned the city's top police officials and said that the police had failed to arrest the suspect even he was seen in the court nearly four hours after the murder and they have been attempting to brand the personal enmity as a reason behind the murder and he claimed that he has been dissatisfied from the police inaction towards the case.
On Thursday, vice-chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes L Murugan met the family of the deceased leader and conducted an inquiry and he addressed the reporters during which Murugan said that Vijaya Raghu was taking part in the pro-CAA campaigns and stated that one of the suspects had allegedly seduced Raghu's daughter in 'Love Jihad' for the past two years and he claimed that Love Jihad has been prevailing in the Tamil Nadu following Kerala. The reports say that Murugan was accompanied by the district collector and police commissioner and collector Sivarasu had handed over a cheque of Rs 4,12,500 to the family under the regulations of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act, 1989.
On Monday, a 38-year-old Vijay Raghu who was BJP's secretary of the Palakkarai zone in the city was reportedly attacked by the two assailants in the wee hours at the busy Gandhi market area and the reports stated that the two men had carried the sharp weapons and attacked him and he was declared dead hours later. The police department had stated that Mittai Babu allegedly had a love affair with Vijay Raghu's daughter.
