Did you know? Only three people had cast their votes in this village in Karnataka!

The voting for the crucial assembly polls in Karnataka has concluded on Wednesday - May 10 and the state had recorded the voter turnout of 72.67%, highest since 1952. As the polling is over and the entire nation is waiting with bated breath for the results, which will be declared on Saturday - May 13, a village in the state has turned heads for a meager voting.

In the village of Kanasinakatte in Bhadravati Taluk in the Shivamogga district, only three people had cast their votes as the residents had unanimously announced that they would boycott the elections due to the lack of basic amenities, including roads and mobile connectivity. The villagers had put up a banner in which they asked the candidates and the party cadres not to enter the village for the election campaigning.

After learning that the entire village has decided to boycott the voting, the Election Commission officials have carried various measures to change the minds of the people. However, the villagers were stubborn at their decision not to exercise their ballots. The local official has confirmed that except from three people, no one from the village turned up to the polling station to cast their votes.

In contrast, the villagers at Doddamatti in same Shivamogga had turned out in good numbers to vote even though no candidate and party had visited the villagers, seeking their votes. The village has 249 voters and over 200 people had cast their votes.

According to The Hindu, Kiran, a graduate from the village said, "No candidate visited our village seeking our votes. But, we are all responsible citizens and we vote without fail." He further said, "Despite many difficulties, a good number of youths in the village have completed graduation. However, the government and elected representatives hardly give attention to the development of the village." As the village sits amidst a reserved forest near Kumsi, the villagers have several demands from proper road and transport facilities to mobile network connectivity.
