DMK MP's son dies in a car accident in Tamil Nadu: Here's what happened!

DMK Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate NR Elango's son has died in a car accident that took place in the wee hours of Thursday - March 10. The mishap has happened in the Villupuram district and the police have launched a probe into the horrific incident. Several DMK leaders and ministers are mourning the loss and expressing condolences to Elango's family. 

Elango's son 22-year-old Rakesh was on his way to Puducherry with his friend. He was travelling on the East Coast Road (ECR) from Chennai and his car had rammed into a divider near Kottakuppam in the Villupuram district. According to police, Rakesh's car had lost control and hit the divider. Rakesh had died on the spot while his friend was severely injured. 

After the incident, local people and fire and rescue officials had rushed to the spot. They had recovered Rakesh's body and rescued his friend, who has now been getting treated at the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) at Kangachettikulam near Puducherry. The accident took place at around 3.45 am.

NR Elango has been a senior advocate and a part of DMK's legal wing. As one of the leaders close to the party's high command, Elango was elected to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu and assumed his first term in office as an MP on 3rd April 2020. After learning about his son's demise, several DMK leaders have been paying tribute to the deceased and consoling his family.
