DMK in trouble: How Khushbu turned red against MK Stalin for derogatory remarks made by DMK speaker?

Actor-turned-BJP leader Khushbu Sundar, who is also a member of National Commission for Women, has turned red on Sunday as she slammed DMK's platform speaker Sivaji Krishnamurthy for his derogatory remarks against her. Krishnamurthy has a controversial profile with DMK and as he didn't change his contentious behaviour, he has been expelled from the party and has been apprehended.

Krishnamurthy's latest remarks have sparked a severe flak from Khushbu and other BJP leaders as the actor-turned-politician had centred her attack on Chief Minister MK Stalin and his leadership. Sivaji Krishnamurthy had already been in the radar for his controversial speech against the Governor earlier this year, that led him to get suspended from the party. However, this time, as his remarks had damaged the party's repute, he has been expelled from DMK.

Moreover, Krishnamurthy has also been apprehended and taken into custody. What's the friction and what has happened? In a video, Krishnamurthy was addressing an event during which he made sexist remarks about Khushbu and actor Prabhu. As Krishnamurthy touched upon Khushbu's past relationships in what appeared to be an irrelevant comment, he had received a sharp hit back from her and from other activists.

Krishnamurthy, despite speaking at a public forum, further went on to make a sexist remark about his wife. He had referred to his wife as a 'super figure' and he also didn't spare his daughter. As his derogatory remarks against Khushbu went viral, Krishnamurthy had put himself in deep water and on Sunday evening, DMK's general secretary Durai Murugan announced that Krishnamurthy has been removed from the party.

Furthermore, a case has also been registered against Krishnamurthy under IPC sections 153- intent to cause riot, 294(b) - obscenity, 504 - provocative speech, 505(1)(b) and 505(2) - spreading rumour of the Indian Penal Code. In the midst of flaks from the Tamil Nadu BJP including its chief Annamalai who slammed the DMK for continuously providing platforms to Sivaji Krishnamurthy, the latter was arrested by Chennai Police.

Kodungaikur police, that booked a case against Krishnamurthy, has arrested him and taken into custody. Khushbu slammed Krishnamurthy's remarks on social media but later, while addressing a presser, she turned read and furiously questioned Chief Minister MK Stalin. Taking to Twitter, Khushbu wrote, "The crass comments of this habitual offender shows the political culture prevalent in DMK. There are many like him in that rut. Abusing women, passing lewd cheap comments about them goes unchecked and is probably rewarded with more opportunities."

"CM MK Stalin, will you accept such statements about women from your family? Your cadres will pelt stones and create havoc. What you dont realise is he not only insults me, but you & a great leader like your father. The more space you provide him, the more political space you will lose . Your party is becoming a safe haven for uncouth hooligans. It's such a shame", she added.

Speaking to ANI, Khushbu said, "When they do not have anything to say, they will stoop to this level of maligning and character assassination. I wanted CM MK Stalin to speak but I know he will not have the guts to speak. This man (Sivaji Krishnamurthy) will continue to enjoy the perks of being a party member because the men of DMK enjoy these kinds of talks behind closed doors".

While addressing the reporters before Krishnamurthy was removed from DMK, Khushbu said, "I am going to hit back till it hurts them. I want the Chief Minister to speak but I know that CM will not ever have the guts to speak. This man will continue to enjoy the perks of being a party member because the men of DMK enjoy these kinds of talks behind closed doors. It has to stop. Today I speak for all women. I have picked up this fight for all the women who face this humiliation."

She further said, "These kinds of men must be taught a lesson. My fight is not going to stop because this is not about the party alone, but this is the mindset of a man where he thinks it is his birthright to insult women on a public forum. No woman has given the right to man that he can abuse her as he wants. I neither give this right to my father nor to my husband. Who are you? It just shows the kind of mindset they have." She broke down in the presser and said that men like Sivaji Krishnamurthy must be arrested and severly punished. "Don't mess with me. You can't withstand if I hit back", she added.

The flawed decorum of Sivaji Krishnamurthy

Earlier this January, Krishnamurthy was suspended from DMK after he made controversial statements against Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. He made the remarks as the response to the Governor for his walk-out from the Assembly and skipping the names in his customary address to the Assembly, that was prepared by the government. Reacting to the Governor's conduct, Krishnamurthy said, "If you don't read out the speech given by the government, then go to Kashmir and we will send terrorists so that they gun you down."

"If the Governor refuses to read the names of leaders like Ambedkar in his speech in the Assembly, don't I have the right to attack him?", Krishnamurthy asked. His remarks have brought a trouble to the DMK and then, the party has announced that Krishnamurthy was suspended from DMK. Suspending him from the party, Durai Murugan said Krishnamurthy has been suspended for violating party discipline and bringing disrepute to the party. Now, after four months, he has been completely removed from DMK after his remarks against Khushbu have wrecked the party.
