Draupathi... Dangerous or Delightful? Movie Review...

No big stars...Not a famous director indeed...not a magnificent production company...but, despite the low-budgeted and being produced through 'crowd-funding', this movie has circled with expectation and it had occupied the debates and went talkative across the digital platforms. Finding a space and grabbing a spotlight with the minimal budget can be tagged with success but beyond that, what substance does 'Draupathi' got as a movie? Is it dangerous or delightful? Let's review...

Rudra Prabhakaran (Richard Rishi) is getting bailed out from prison where he was lodged with the connection to the honor killing. Instead of going to his native town of Senthamangalam in Villupuram district, he comes to Chennai and installs a mobile tea shop in a sub-registrar office in North Chennai. He keenly watches the fouls and abuses in the register marriages happening in the registrar's office with the motive of accomplishing the promise and pledge made by his wife Draupathi (Sheela Rajkumar). He murders the people who commit the abuses. The movie directed by Mohan G projects the reason why Rudra Prabhakaran murders the people, his background, the pledge made by his wife, and what happened to her.

Richard Rishi and Sheela Rajkumar in the movie

In many interviews, the director has pressed that he has written the story based on the true case that happened around the fake registered marriages. The first half of the movie drives through the base of the unseen and unknown side of the issue and it projects the background and abuses in an impressive way. The suspense of why Richard Rishi got into the action of killing has somehow worked out well. With a minimal budget, the shooting was done in real streets and places that, in turn, had helped the movie. The role of the actress Draupathi was created with good emphasis and importance. In a healthy creation of the role of an educated village woman -who involves in constructive social service,- who boldly acts against a teenage man who is causing trouble for a teenage woman under the guise of love, - who leads ahead in talking about the social issues, actress Sheela Rajkumar has somewhat acted excessively in her role. It adds more special to the role as the story is structured around the character and it brings more chattered feeling when that character speaks boasting dialogues.

The components of a low budget can largely be seen in several scenes. The police team that investigates the murders and the court scenes could have been more credible. The artificiality of most of the actors brought major drawbacks for the movie but the starring of Karunas, Ambani Shankar, Aaru Bala was a comfort for the movie. The curiosity presented by the first half was eventually drained by the long flashback. The movie is also speaking about the farmers' issue and hydrocarbon. It seems like the Tamil directors have pledged to speak about these issues beyond the story and Mohan G is not exceptional.

Actor Richard Rishi in the movie

This movie is an important prospect for Richard Rishi as an actor and as a hero. He managed to suit himself to the prospect but he is yet to reach his full extent. His voice hadn't cooperated with him in strong scenes and it would be good for him if he molds his body language and voice. Jubin's background music largely boosting up the normal scenes. Manoj Narayan's cinematography has strongly aided the basement of the movie while Devaraj could have taken more assiduity towards editing the movie.

It's a positive aspect of the movie to speak about the dangerous issue that was not in the complete awareness of the people. But the way it was spoken has the larger sphere of creating more troubles. India gives liberty for the people who attained the age and maturity to choose their life partner and the current period and the changing mindsets have been recognizing the notion. Having said that, the projections of scenes and dialogues in the way of threatening the love and love marriages are more dangerous. The crimes were turned to one side and the dialogues have been scripted in such a way to entertain one particular group and hurting the other. Is that healthy, essential and important?
