Erode East Congress MLA Elangovan, who is hospitalized in Chennai, tests positive for COVID-19!

In a setback for his health condition, Erode East Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan, who is hospitalized in Chennai, has tested positive for COVID-19. The hospital that is treating the 74-year-old legislator has on Monday - March 20 issued an official statement about his health condition. As Elangovan has been bracing up a health setback, several leaders have extended their wishes to him for a speedy recovery. 

EVKS Elangovan was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre in Porur, Chennai on March 15 after he developed health discomfort. He was getting treated at the critical care unit and after showing improvements, it was said that he was shifted to general ward. However, the hospital has on Monday said that he is getting treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 

In a statement on Monday, the hospital said, "Mr EVKS Elangovan was admitted on 15.03.2023 in Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre. He is diagnosed to have coronary artery disease & mild COVID infection. He is recovering well in the Intensive Care Unit." The development has come at a high time when the Tamil Nadu Assembly commenced its budget session and there was expectation that Elangovan would get discharged in days and would attend the session. 

Elangovan recently got elected as an MLA from the Erode East constituency.  In what has become a landslide victory, Elangovan contested in the Erode East bypoll after his younger son Thirumahan Everaa died on January 4 at the age of 46 due to cardiac arrest. By replacing his son, Elangovan sworn in as the Erode East MLA on March 10. 

At a high time when he was preparing to enter the assembly for the first time in three decades, Elangovan had complained health discomfort on March 15. He was rushed to Ramachandra Medical Centre hospital in Porur. According to a Congress functionary, Elangovan was suffering from breathing difficulty and that he has been put under routine observation.  

Earlier, the visuals from the hospital had shown that Elangovan is doing fine and stable and was going through medical tests and the doctors have advised him to take rest. On Thursday - March 16, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited Elangovan in the hospital and inquired about his health. 

Subramanian took to Twitter and shared the pictures in which Elangovan was seen conversing with them. While it was expected that the Congress MLA would get discharged in two to three days, the hospital has now announed that Elangovan has been tested positive for COVID-19 and he is also diagnosed to have coronary artery disease.
