FDFS on OTT: Tamil Cinema's Diwali competition!

As Diwali is just ten days ahead, people are preparing to celebrate the festival of lights accompanied by new normal and health protocols towards preventing the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. When it's typical that the Diwali celebration won't be fulfilled without watching movies at the theaters, the COVID-19 triggered lockdown had pushed the people to get settled for the new normal in the wake of the spread of the pandemic. 

As the Tamil Nadu state government has recently permitted the resumption of theaters across the state, seven months after its suspension, it's yet to be confirmed on what movies would be released on the big screens during the Diwali festival. While the theater owners are preparing for the resumption after seven months, the OTT platforms have still been dominating the big screens and as Diwali approaches, the OTT platforms are getting ready to release some of the big movies directly to the hands of fans and audience. 

In what has become new feet for the cinema industry to walk on in the absence of the theatrical release, the OTT platforms would be releasing the following movies during Diwali. What could become the Diwali crackers from OTT, each platform -Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+Hotstar will be witnessing a strong competition as each of them will be releasing the movies of some of the big stars. 

Soorarai Pottru: Starred by Suriya, it would become the biggest release of the Tamil Cinema on the OTT during Diwali. The movie will be released directly on Amazon Prime Video on November 12. Produced by Suriya, Soorarai Pottru is directed by 'Irudhi Suttru' fame Sudha Kongara and the movie will also be starred by Aparna Balamurali in the female lead. The movie is based on the life of Captain Gopinath, who was the founder of India's first low-cost airline, Air Deccan.

Miss India: OTT has been giving a breakthrough for Keerthy Suresh and after playing as the solo lead in two consecutive movies -Mahanati and Penguin, Keerthy Suresh is on her third and much hoping project. Directed by Narendra Nath, the movie will be released on Netflix on November 4 in Tamil and Telugu. The film was produced by Mahesh Koneru and it also stars Rajendra Prasad, Nadhiya, and Jagapathi Babu. 

Mookuthi Amman: Lady Superstar Nayanthara will be featuring as Goddess Nayanthara in this drama and fun-filled picture, directed by RJ Balaji. This is the second movie directed by RJ Balaji after his success in LKG. Mookuthi Amman will be released on Disney+Hotstar on November 14. While Ishari Ganesh has bankrolled the movie, Girishh had composed music. 

Andhaghaaram: Director Atlee goes for the next level after producing the movie for the first time. Andhaghaaram comes as the Diwali gift from Atlee and this suspense thriller is directed by Vignarajan. The film is starred by Arjun Das, Vinoth Kishan, and Pooja Ramachandran in the lead. The movie will be released on Netflix on November 24. While it was written by Vignarajan, Pradeep Kumar has composed music. 

The Tamil Nadu government had on Saturday permitted the resumption of theaters across the state, except in the containment zones, from November 10. The government has mandated the theaters to function with 50% of seating capacity and directed to adhere to the standard operating procedures.

As the theaters had cleared the clouds over the resumption, it's yet to be cleared on what movies will be screened on big screens during Diwali. While Vijay's 'Master' has asserted for the theatrical release, the moviemaker is yet to make the official announcement concerning the release of Thalapathy's next, which the fans are waiting to watch it on the big screens.
