AK 62, which is yet to be officially titled, was announced in March 2022 with Vignesh Shivan as the director and Anirudh Ravichander as the music composer. The film was supposed to go on floors in January 2023 after the release of Ajith’s Thunivu on Netflix. However, due to creative differences, Vignesh Shivan was dropped from the project and Magizh Thirumeni, who directed Thadam and Meaghamann, was roped in.

Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, who was initially announced as the director of Ajith Kumar’s upcoming film AK 62, has finally opened up about his departure from the project. In an interview with Galatta, he revealed that he was disappointed with the outcome, but clarified that Ajith had nothing to do with it.

He said that the production house, Lyca Productions, was not satisfied with the second half of his script and decided to replace him with Magizh Thirumeni. Vignesh Shivan also wished Magizh Thirumeni all the best for the film and said that he would enjoy it as an Ajith fan.

He added that he had no hard feelings towards anyone and that he was looking forward to his next venture. The film is expected to be launched soon with a new title and a new music director. It was reported that the production banner, Lyca Productions and actor decided to announce the film with the official title only.

Ajith fans have been eagerly waiting for an update on AK 62, which will be his 62nd film in his career. The actor was last seen in Thunivu, which released in theatres in January 2023 clashing with Vijay's Varisu and became a blockbuster opening to this year.
