The first lady to speak this in Tamil cinema! How is the effect? - Ponmagal Vandhal Review

Lockdown has given the Tamil Cinema new feet to walk and the new platform to reach the people. While OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon have earned the Tamil audience who mostly binge-watch the series or documentaries, they had, for the first time, watched the live streaming of the movie on its first day from their home and at their comfort. Jyothika starring 'Ponmagal Vandhal' was the first Tamil movie to get released in Amazon Prime and it was released on May 29 with high expectations and huge oppositions.

After meeting with controversy over her recent speech in an event and earning opposition from the theater owners, Jyothika has set a path for the comeback after the movie has got successfully released on the OTT platform which has become a new normal. But, the injustice isn't a new normal as Jyothika speaks of justice boldly and strongly. How are the effects of her acting and the essence of the story?

The movie starts with opening a double murder in Ooty that took place before 15 years. Jyothi, who was known as a serial killer for murdering children, was caught up in the video of murdering two males. The law enforcement interrogates her based on the video proof and while the investigation, the police discovers and exhumes the corpses of many children. While Jyothi attempts to evade from the police investigation and officers shot her to death. The police accused her of the murders and close the case after the encounter.

After 15 years, Venba (Jyothika) and her father Petitioner Pethuraj (Bhagyaraj) re-open the closed case again to find out who was the real suspect and assailant. The furor-ic opening draws live attention towards the movie to reveal why the case was re-opened after 15 years and who was the accused. Did this courtroom drama genre movie has delivered justice?

Although the courtroom scenes were filled with the screenplay structure, the message, and the moving sequence were important factors to watch for. The violence against women and the campaigns to deliver justice to the victims aren't new in India.

Most of the women, who had faced sexual assaults and tortures, weren't coming out to divulge what they had faced and in exceptional, most of such cases are coming to the spotlight whenever there has been a murder or brutal violence.

When some women come forward with more courage to report the violence, they would be treated illfully. The movie has been directed with the centric of speaking the sexual assaults and violence committed against infants and minor children amid the strong prevalence of such dreadful acts. Debut director JJ Fredrick and Lead Actor Jyothika must be commended and lauded for coming up with such a story in the first movie and to take up such a role more boldly.

The movie keeps the audience live and it could have strongly been etched in people's minds if it would have created with strong dialogues and screenplay. The background score from Govind Vasantha keeps the tension while the cameras of Cinematographer Mathi have capture Ooty much more colorfully. Jyothika has seemingly committed to delivering roles close to social concern by understanding the quantity of the role.

The experienced acting of Bhagyaraj and Parthiepan has pillared the movie strongly while Prathap Pothen and Pandiarajan had registered a good come back and the villain role, which played by Thiagarajan, could have been given with more ingredients and importance and the movie's success was due to the story that stimulates our mind, emotions to voice against the violence and injustice faced by the women to ensure that they a safe, secure, and equal world amid living in the patriarchal society.
