First Tamil anthology from Netflix: From Gautham Menon to Vetri Maaran..check this interesting project!

OTT giant Netflix has strongly been stretching its arm in the Indian market like never before after Indians develop a new love for the streaming site during the lockdown which confined millions into their homes and turned many into binge-watchers. Netflix has been exploring the anthology corridors in the past few years and now, it is ready to unveil its first Tamil anthology 'Paava Kadhaigal'.

The untouched anthology has been pouring out of the Tamil and Telugu film industries in recent times. 'Paava Kadhaigal' will be getting streamed from December 18 and Netflix has released the teaser of the anthology on Friday. Taking to Twitter, Netflix India had unveiled the teaser and said, "Idhuku mela wait panna mudiyathu!(We can't wait anymore) Presenting the teaser of Paava Kadhaigal".

The anthology consists of four stories and each directed by reputed Tamil directors - Gautham Menon, Sudha Kongara, Vetri Maaran, and Vignesh Shivan. The anthology would be the adoption of 'Lust Stories' that was released by Netflix in 2018. However, four directors had crafted the stories with different tones. Beyond getting lined up as one of the anthologies to watch upon, Paava Kadhaigal would present a relishing unification of the reputed directors.

The film has roped in some of the ace and young artists including Prakash Raj, Simran, Gautham Menon, Anjali, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Sai Pallavi, Hari, Kalidas Jayaram, Kalki Koechlin, and Padam Kumar. While Sudha Kongara's story was titled as 'Thangam' starred by Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu, and Bhavani Sre, Vetri Maaran's story has been titled as 'Oor Iravu' starred by Prakash Raj, Hari, and Sai Pallavi. 'Vaanmagal' has been directed by Gautham Menon and it will be featuring him in the male lead while Simran in the female lead.

Titled as 'Love Panna Uttranum', Vignesh Shivan's story would revolve around a romantic drama and it is starred Anjali, Kalki Koechlin, and Padam Kumar. The anthology has been slated for a release on December 18. While Netflix is ready to unveil its curtain for its first Tamil anthology, the streaming giant has been preparing to release its second Tamil anthology 'Navarasa' produced by Mani Ratnam.

Navarasa is the anthology comprised of nine stories revolving around the nine rasas (nine traits of a human being) and it will be directed by nine directors including Gautham Menon, KV Anand, Karthick Naren, Bejoy Nambiar, and others while reputed actors including Suriya and Vijay Sethupathi have been roped in to reprise the human traits before the cameras. Navarasa will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.

For the Tamil industry, it's not the first anthology released on the OTT platforms as last month, Putham Pudhu Kaalai was released on Amazon Prime Video and got a decent reception and welcoming feedback from critics. Putham Pudhu Kaalai is comprised of five stories and each directed by Sudha K Prasad, Suhashini Maniratnam, Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon, and Karthik Subbaraj.
