Former ADMK Minister is expelled from the party...Here's why!

In a shocking development, former ADMK Minister Nilofer Kafeel has been removed from the party hours after she tabled her resignation to the party's leadership. The party has expelled her for bringing disrepute to it. Her primary membership with the party has been repealed and the leaders have directed the party cadres not to exercise contact with the expelled leader.

In a joint statement, party's coordinator Panneerselvam and joint coordinator Edappadi Palaniswami had said, "Nilofer Kafeel has been removed from the party for acting against the party's principles and party cadres should not have any contact with her." With the development, Kafeel has become the first leader to get expelled from the party after its defeat in the recently-held Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Kafeel was a deputy district secretary of the party in Tirupattur district and an executive committee member. After securing a victory in the 2016 polls, Kafeel was appointed as the Minister of Labour by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. She was one of the notable women leaders in the party and she had served as a chairwoman of Vaniyambadi municipality for five years.

The party leadership has denied her the ticket to contest from the Vaniyambadi legislative constituency in the 2021 polls post which she was said to have developed dissent against the leadership. The party had awarded the ticket to Alangayam west union secretary G Senthilkumar to contest from Vaniyambadi based on the suggestion from local minister KC Veeramani.

In March, Kafeel had directly blamed Veeramani for sidelining her in the party. Kafeel had alleged that Veeramani had links with the DMK leaders and provided government tenders to them. According to reports, Kafeel was one of the three ministers denied poll tickets by the current leadership in the recently-held elections.

She was unhappy with the party's leadership for ignoring her and after the party's defeat, she had decided to quit the party and on Friday, she had sent her resignation to the party's leadership. Hours after her resignation, the ADMK leaders had removed Kafeel from the party's basic membership. However, a close aide of Kafeel has said that the former minister has taken the decision of quitting the party for personal reasons following the death of her mother and sister last week.
