Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is hospitalized in AIIMS Delhi!

Veteran Congress leader and former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was on Wednesday admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi after he complained of a fever and breathing difficulty. Singh was India's 13th Prime Minister and served the office for ten years from 2004 to 2014. Besides being a politician, he was a prominent economist.

According to reports, the 89-year-old octogenarian had a fever on Monday and had later recovered. However, he then had developed the flu and breathing difficulties following which he was moved to the AIIMS in the evening hours of Wednesday. He was admitted to the cardioneuro unit of the AIIMS and is under the care of a team of cardiologists led by Dr Nitish Naik, Singh's personal physician for several years.

The Congress party has affirmed that Singh's health condition is stable and denied the rumours concerning his health. Congress party's secretary Pranav Jha has taken to Twitter and wrote, "There are some unsubstantiated rumours with regards to former PM, Dr Manmohan Singh ji's health. His condition is stable. He is undergoing routine treatment. We will share any updates as needed. We thank our friends in the media for their concern."

Speaking to PTI, an official of the AIIMS Delhi has said, "He (Manmohan Singh) was admitted for evaluation of fever; his condition is stable." Manmohan Singh's successor and incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi had wished Singh to have a speedy recovery. Taking to social media, Modi wrote, "I pray for the good health and speedy recovery of Dr Manmohan Singh Ji."

On Thursday (October 14) morning, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had visited the AIIMS Delhi and enquired about the health of the former Prime Minister. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had tweeted, "I wish a speedy recovery to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh Ji. May God grant him good health."  The Congress party had also posted a tweet on its official handle and extended its wishes to Singh for a swift recovery.

It is pertinent to note that Singh had already been hospitalized in April this year.  He was admitted due to the Covid-19 infection. He had recovered after facing symptoms of Covid-19 and he was also admitted to the hospital in May 2020 after he reportedly complained of chest congestion. As the former prime minister has been under observation currently, several national leaders are extending their wishes for him to have a speedy recovery.
