Former Tamil Nadu Congress leader passes away at the age of 71 in Chennai!

In a shocking development, former Congress leader Gnanadesigan has passed away on Friday at the age of 71 in Chennai due to his age-related ailments. Known to be the closest aide of former Union Minister GK Vasan, Gnanadesigan was a senior leader of the Tamil Maanila Congress and he was also the former President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. 

Gnanadesigan was one of the notable political leaders in the state and he broke his party lines to support GK Vasan when the latter had launched a separate party to rival the Congress party. After launching his political party, Vasan named the deceased leader as the Vice-President of the Tamil Maanila Congress. Gnanadesignan had turned as a critic of the Congress party and Vasan's party was observing ties with the BJP and Tamil Nadu ruling ADMK party. 

Gnanadesigan was active on political grounds and he was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on November 11 after he complained of illness. He was getting treated at the hospital for the past two months. However, he remained in a critical state and was getting treated under life support. Despite the treatments, he breathed his last on Friday at the age of 71 and the hospital said that he had died of his age-related ailments. 

BS Gnanadesigan had served as the Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu for two times from 2001 till 2013 and he also had served as the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee from 2009 to 2013 following which he exited from the Congress party and joined GK Vasan's Tamil Maanila Congress. He was one of the reliable commanders of Vasan in his party and played a crucial role in building the party in the state. 

After the news of his demise headlined, the members of the party had shocked to learn his passing away and several leaders have been paying tribute to the deceased leader and expressing their condolences to his family. GK Vasan took to Twitter and shared the news of his demise and he released some of his pictures with Gnandesigan. DMK President MK Stalin said, "I'm deeply saddened after learning the demise of Gnanadesigan who was the vice president of Tamil Maanila Congress and close friend of Karunanidhi".

In a series of tweets, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Chidambaram paid tribute to the deceased leader. He said, "I'm deeply shocked and saddened to learn the demise of my long time friend Gnanadesigan who worked with us in the Congress party under the leadership of Moopanar. I pay my tribute to him and condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace".
