Fresh trouble for Ajith's 'Valimai': Why the High Court has sent legal notice to Boney Kapoor and Vinoth?

In the midst of commercial sixes and mixed reviews from the audience, Ajith starred Valimai has invited fresh trouble as the moviemakers had got a legal notice under the accusation of alleged plagiarism. While the fans celebrate the box-office hit of the movie, the latest development had shocked the fans as they await how the legal issue would be progressed.

Earlier, it was spelt that Valimai was similar to another Tamil movie 'Metro' as they both deal with the same plot. As such comparisons were rampant across social media, the producer of Metro has now knocked on the doors of the Madras High Court seeking compensation from the Valimai team for copying his story. Producer Jaya Krishnan had bankrolled the Metro movie in 2016 under his banner JK Creations.

Though 'Metro' didn't take off well, Jaya Krishnan has moved his plea to the High Court alleging that the story and characters of Valimai were taken from his movie. In his petition, he also sought Rs 1 crore as compensation for causing damages by using the characters of Metro without prior permission. His claim has stunned the fans and fraternities as it has put Valimai under the accusation of plagiarism.

Jaya Krishnan has further said that the protagonist in Valimai, who learns that his brother was involved in drug trafficking, is portrayed as killing his own brother for a comfortable life in his movie Metro. He said that he has also planned to produce Metro in Hindi and other languages. However, the same story was filmed as Valimai in multiple languages which have caused him a huge financial loss due to which he had decided to approach the court seeking compensation.

Admitting his petition, the Madras High Court Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has on Friday issued a legal notice to Valimai producer Boney Kapoor and director H Vinoth ordering them to respond by March 17. Valimai was released on February 24, 2022, in the theatres and while Ajith Kumar has played the lead role, Kartikeya Gummakonda, Huma Qureshi, Gurbani Judge, Raj Ayyappa, Sumithra, and GM Sundar played important roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music and it has been reported that Valimai has grossed Rs 140 crore at the box office worldwide in eleven days.
