Fresh trouble for DMK: 'Cash for vote' tokens seized from DMK leader ahead of Erode East bypoll!

In what has become a fresh trouble for the Tamil Nadu ruling DMK, a leader of the party was caught into scrutiny after the Election Commission officials have seized 'Cash for vote' tokens from him in the Tiruppur district, ahead of the Erode East bypoll. 

Erode East bypoll will be held on February 27 and the results would be declared on March 2. In the midst of staunch campaigns from the political parties, the Election Commission officials are also conducting stern surveillance around the constituency to ensure to curb money distribution for votes. In the midst of searches, the officials have seized 'Cash for vote' tokens from a DMK leader in Tirupur. 

On Saturday - February 11, Erode District Election Officer H Krishnanunni said that the Election Officials and police personnel seized tokens from DMK South Union Treasurer Sarbudeen's car in the Tirupur district. The officials surrounded Sarbudeen's car after they got information about the distribution of money at night through tokens during the election campaign. 

Earlier on Saturday, the Union government had deployed additional security forces in the Erode East constituency. As per the Election Commission data, the Erode East bypoll will have 77 candidates on the ballot and five Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be kept in every booth. 

Erode Corporation Commissioner and Returning Officer for the constituency, K Sivakumar has said that the final number of candidates contesting the bypoll is 77. Earlier, 83 nominations were accepted. However, six candidates including Siva Prashanth of AMMK had withdrawn their nominations, which brought down the final numbers to 77. The Election Commission has allotted the symbol for the contestants. Besides the strongest contenders of DMK and ADMK, the parties like Vijaykanth's DMDK and Seeman's Naam Tamilar Katchi are also vying in the race.
