Frontline workers battling Corona - TN gov to provide Rs 2 lakh as a medical cover!

For the people those who have been battling against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state at the frontline, the Tamil Nadu government has agreed to cover the medical expenses for such frontline workers including the staff who are attached with the essential departments if they turned to be positive for the global pandemic.

In its order, the government has announced that apart from covering the medical expenses, the workers would be awarded Rs 2 lakh medical cover if they affected by the virus during their course of the work. According to the order, the government would be reviewing the medical cover after May 30.

The staff who are attached in the departments of Revenue, Police, Health and Family Welfare, Disaster Management, Sanitation and Conservancy workers, local bodies workers including both rural and urban are applicable to avail the medical cover as the workers in these sectors are carrying out the on-ground containment plan of the state government to curb the spread of the virus.

According to the reports, the order to benefit the frontline workers has no role to play with the lockdown and the government has issued the order with the view of benefitting the staff who are acting as the first leg of the state's task force to curb the spread of the pandemic and along with the medical cover, these workers would be provided with personal protective equipment and mechanisms like boots, gloves, and masks to ensure that they didn't get affected while they are battling against the virus.

The officials stated that the medical cover would apply for getting treatments both in private and government hospitals. According to the health department, the state has screened over 2 lakh passengers at the airports and it has collected 5015 samples were tested of which 4099 returned negative, 621 tested positive while remaining are under process. Of the positive cases, 560 patients had attended the Jamaat Conference in Delhi.
