The day one of the Tamil Nadu assembly witnessed high-level dramas as the house unfolded tumultuous events, which became yet another episode of growing tug of war between the ruling DMK government and Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The assembly was convened on Monday- January 9 with the Governor's customary address that went down like a lead balloon.
Governor RN Ravi apparently walked out of the assembly after Chief Minister MK Stalin brought a resolution against him under the grounds of violating the assembly tradition. It all started with the Governor's conduct of skipping key sections in the dossier prepared by the state government and adding new terms that aren't part of it. As a tradition, the governor would address the opening day of the first assembly session of the year by reading out the document prepared by the state government.
The dossier would contain the government's key achievements and announcements. On Monday, Governor Ravi, who already caught into trouble through his controversial remark of advocating to call Tamil Nadu as Tamilagam, began his address in Tamil and he went on to ignore key sections of the speech after which the Chief Minister brought a resolution against him.
It came to revelation that Governor Ravi had skipped crucial points and references to Ambedkar, Periyar, Kamaraj, Annadurai, and Kalaignar Karunanidhi from the document and when the Chief Minister pointed it out later, the Governor walked out of the assembly with a stiffed face amid MK Stalin's speech. According to reports, Governor RN Ravi didn't read out the section of 'Dravidian Model' - it said, "This award is a testimony to the dynamic leadership of our Hon'ble Chief Minister and the Dravidian model of development, which is founded on the tenets of social justice and inclusive growth."
The Governor has also left out a phrase that said Tamil Nadu is safe as the law and order in the state is greatly upheld. As the Governor overtly skipped these sections, the DMK legislators voiced their dissent and said that the Governor has broken the protocol. When Chief Minister MK Stalin began to address the house, he pointed out that Governor has deliberately left key sections of the document. MK Stalin said that the Governor has violated the assembly protocol by failing to read out the dossier.
The Chief Minister also said that the Governor's remarks, apart from reading out the document, must be removed from the assembly records. When MK Stalin apparently said that what the Governor did was wrong and proposed a resolution against the Governor, RN Ravi stood up and walked out the assembly and the event said to be the first-of-its-kind in history of the state assembly that the sitting Governor boycotted the Chief Minister's address and walked out of the assembly.
The Chief Minister further said, "It's sad that the Governor didn't read out the address prepared by the Tamil Nadu government. The principle of RSS is that Tamil Nadu shouldn't be safe and serene and the Governor is reflecting the same. He is refusing to say Tamil Nadu is safe." MK Stalin's blow against the Governor in the assembly has become the talk of the town with a flock of Dravidian followers commend and back Stalin as it is perhaps the first time where the Chief Minister moved a motion against the Governor in the latter's presence in the assembly.
MK Stalin's prompt reaction against the Governor has sparked a statewide trend where the Governor was slammed for acting on the behest of BJP and urged to leave the state. Besides BJP and ADMK, most of the parties including Naam Tamilar and PMK displayed that they are on the same page by opposing Governor's deliberate move of violating the protocol.
Tweets with the hashtags '#GetOutRavi' and '#GetOutRNRavi' have been outpouring from across and beyond the borders and DMK's IT wing secretary wrote, "Honourable CM Thiru @mkstalin condemned the Governor @rajbhavan_tn for deviating from the approved speech and moved the motion to remove his extra remarks from assembly records! Unable to face the heat and humiliation, Governor walked away midst of the session! #GetOutRavi." After the Governor has walked out, the assembly has passed the resolution against him.

Despite repeated reminders that the #Governors are under the constitution & not above it, Ravi continues to make anti-constitutional statements & function as a RSS propaganda secretary by omitting parts of the speech suggested by the State govt He needs to step down #GetOutRavi pic.twitter.com/jVxqEXXNg5— Yazhini PM (யாழினி ப மீ) (@yazhini_pm) January 9, 2023
TN Governor refused to read this piece from his prepared speech. Governors have no right to deviate from what is given to them. If they want to rule via imaginary powers, they should go back to Delhi. #GetOutRavi pic.twitter.com/sprGQnuoup— Hari Iyengar (@hariiyengaar) January 9, 2023
