#GetOutRavi grows louder: As RN Ravi returns the anti-NEET Bill, that particular tweet from MK Stalin goes viral!

Social media platforms have been trending the hashtag #GetOutRavi and the epicentre of the trend is Tamil Nadu as the state has been expressing its dissent against Governor RN Ravi after he had returned the anti-NEET Bill, passed by the DMK government, to the assembly citing that the Bill goes against the interest of the students. Annoyed by his action that has been alleged to be unconstitutional, the DMK leaders have been slamming the Governor for sending back the Bill.

Through his action, RN Ravi has come under the heat and the MPs of the DMK alliance had urged the Union government to withdraw the Governor for violating his constitutional powers. Several social media users have been voicing against him, which spurred a social media trend. Getting miffed by his action, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has been taking efforts to repeal the NEET, has put out a tweet against the Governor which has been going viral.

On Thursday, Tamil Nadu has marked the 53rd death anniversary of former Chief Minister and social reformer CN Annadurai. After the Governor had returned the Bill to the assembly, MK Stalin took to Twitter and issued a statement. He said, "On the 53rd death anniversary of Perarignar Anna, I am thinking of his statement that he said during that time that whether the Governor is essential for the state?". While his tweet was going viral, it has apparently shown how MK Stalin was angered over Governor RN Ravi for sending the Bill, that was overwhelmingly passed by the assembly, back to the assembly.

In line with MK Stalin, several politicians in Tamil Nadu including VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan, PMK's Anbumani Ramadoss, and Tamil Nadu Congress President KS Alagiri had voiced against the Governor's decision. Thirumavalavan said, "The Governor, who had insulted the Tamil Nadu people by returning the NEET exemption Bill, must be withdrawn." The Bill was passed by the assembly in September 2021 and five months after being tabled at his office, RN Ravi has finally returned the Bill.

Raj Bhavan, the Governor's office, has on Thursday issued a statement and said, "The Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, after a detailed study of the L.A. (Legislative Assembly) Bill No. 43 of 2021 for admission to undergraduate medical courses seeking exemption from NEET, and the report of the high-level committee constituted by the state government in this regard which is the basis for the bill and also examining the pre-NEET status of social justice in medical admission especially for students coming from socially and economically poor background, is of the opinion that the Bill is against interests of the students especially the rural and economically poor students of the state."

The statement further read, "Hence, the Hon'ble Governor has returned the Bill to the Hon'ble Speaker, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on February 01, 2022, giving detailed reasons, for its reconsideration by the House. The Hon'ble Supreme Court in Christian Medical College, Vellore Association Vs. Union of India (2020) also has comprehensively examined the issue especially from the Social Justice perspective and upheld NEET as it prevents economic exploitation of poor students and is in furtherance of social justice."
