Hackers in PM Modi's official website account: Here's what Twitter had to say!

In an unprecedented development, the twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal website and mobile app was hacked with the bogus tweets of asking its millions of followers to donate to the PM's relief fund through cryptocurrency.

The account under the name of '@narendramodi_in' has been the official handle of the Prime Minister's personal website and mobile app and it has over 2.5 million followers. Lastly, the twitter handle has tweeted the quote of the Prime Minister made during his Mann Ki Baat address on August 31 and the handle has now become the recent victim after it was hacked and posted with phony tweets.

Twitter has on Thursday issued the conformity that the account was hacked and the social media giant had stated it was aware of the activity with Modi's website account and has taken steps to secure it. According to Reuters, the spokeswoman of Twitter said that they are actively investigating the situation and have taken steps to secure the compromised account. The spokesperson added that, "At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted".

The Prime Minister's office hasn't immediately responded to the shocking development and for the comments that the bogus tweet has received. It has been reported that Modi's official account, which has 61 million followers, wasn't affected by the wave of the hack.

The series of bogus tweets that were winged from @narendramodi_in read, "I appeal to you all to donate generously to PM National Relief Fund for Covid-19. Now India begin with cryptocurrency. Kindly donate bitcoin to 0xae073DB1e5752faFF169B1ede7E8E94bF7f80Be6". "Yes this account is hacked by John Wick (hckindia@tutanota.com), We have not hacked Paytm Mall" read another bogus tweet.

After the revelation came to light, these bogus tweets were removed and the handle has been under scrutiny. The handle has become one of the victims for the cryptocurrency scam where the hackers had breached the virtual security fence and posted the fake tweets with the view of coercing the users to donate through bitcoin to the said account.

The official accounts of Former US President Barack Obama, current Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden, Microsoft's Bill Gates, Tesla's Elon Musk, Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos have posted the bogus tweets with the ransom offering.

The phony tweets from these leaders had apparently ended up to be the Bitcoin scam. The series of tweets had given the offer to their followers that they would be awarded $2000 for every $1000 that was sent to the anonymous Bitcoin address. The development had shocked the world and alarmed the social media giant that it still resting under vulnerability and to enhance its protocols to mitigate such hackings. Nearly after two months, the Twitter handle of Modi's official website has been hacked by asking to donate to the Prime Minister's relief fund for COVID-19.
