Happy birthday Suriya: The National Award-winning actor is inundated by wishes from leaders and top stars!

Actor Suriya wouldn't have asked for a better gift for his 47th birthday than a National Award. The ace actor is celebrating his 47th birthday on Saturday - July 23 with a stupendous honour from the Indian government as he has been conferred with a National Award for the Best Actor in recognition of his brilliant performance in the movie Soorarai Pottru. 

As Suriya has won the National Award for the first time and it aligns with his birthday, the ardent fans of the actor are in the seventh heaven as they relish the conferment of the prestigious award. It is not a typical birthday for Suriya and the actor has been inundated with wishes for both the National Award and the birthday from scores of leaders and top stars. The wishes from the actors across the country have been going viral. 

While Suriya was conferred with the Best Actor Award, the movie Soorarai Pottru bagged more awards from the event of the 68th National Film Awards held on Friday. Commending the honour, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took to Twitter and extended his wishes for Suriya for winning the National Award. The Chief Minister also congratulated other recipients and responding to MK Stalin's wishes, Suriya wrote, "My heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Soorarai Pottru team for your inspiring words." 

Wishing Suriya for receiving the national award, Malayalam star Mammootty took to Twitter and wrote, "National Award. A beautiful birthday gift...Happy birthday dear Suriya." Actor Madhavan wrote, "That's my bro...Congratulations on the National Award for Soorarai Pottru...Heart swells with pride bro." Tollywood star Chiranjeevi wrote, "Hearty congrats to my dearest Suriya on the National Best Actor Award!! It's even more special coming on the eve of your birthday!! Many many happy returns of the day & wishing you many many more accolades along the way." 

Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar wrote, "Over the moon to see Soorarai Pottru win the top honours at the National Awards. Heartfelt congratulations my brother Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, and my director Sudha Kongara. Humbled to be working in the Hindi adaptation of such an iconic film." Commending Suriya's milestone, actor Dhanush took to Twitter and wrote, "A big congratulations to all the national award winners. Especially Suriya sir and my good friend GV Prakash. A big day for Tamil cinema. Super proud." 

Malayalam actor Mohanlal wrote, "Some birthday presents are precious coincidences. Happy birthday and congratulations once again, dear Suriya." Kamal Haasan cited that the Tamil cinema industry has turned heads from across the nation by winning ten National Awards in total. Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai has thanked the Union government for honouring Suriya with a National Award. Earlier on Friday, Suriya penned a heart-touching statement in which he thanked his fans and well-wishers, besides commending the artists who won the National Awards. 

His statement has been going viral and the actor asserted that this glorious recognition gives him a crucial push to his commitment to presenting good movies. Soorarai Pottru was partly inspired by events from the life of Simplifly Deccan founder GR Gopinath. The movie was written and helmed by Sudha Kongara and bankrolled by Suriya & Jyothika under their banner 2D Entertainment and by Guneet Monga under her banner Sikhya Entertainment. While Suriya played the lead role, Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu, Urvashi, Karunas, Poo Ramu, Vivek Prasanna, and Kaali Venkat played important roles. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music and the movie was directly released on the Amazon Prime OTT in November 2020.
