Superstar Rajinikanth took to Twitter to express his grief over the demise of actor-director Marimuthu, who passed away on Thursday due to a cardiac arrest. Marimuthu, who was 56, was also known for his work in the popular TV series Ethirneechal.

Rajinikanth wrote, "Marimuthu is a wonderful person. His death shocked me. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family." Jailer was the last film, which the late actor Marimuthu worked. He also to be seen on Indian 2, directed by Shankar.

He made his directorial debut with Kannum Kannum in 2008, followed by Pulivaal in 2014. As an actor, he appeared and known for his special roles in films such as Yuddham Sei, Pariyerum Perumal, Komban, Nimirndhu Nil, and Marudhu.

Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, was Marimuthu's last film as an actor. He played a supporting role in the action drama, which starred Rajinikanth as a retired jailer who seeks revenge for his son's murder. The film, which was released on August 10.
