In his father's legacy...Puneeth Rajkumar donates his eyes: Actor Ajith pays tribute!

Puneeth Rajkumar had added more value to his glorifying career after his death as he followed his father's footsteps and vision. 46-year-old Sandalwood Power star Puneeth Rajkumar had passed away on Friday in Bengaluru due to cardiac arrest. While hundreds and thousands of his fans have gathered before his residence and mourning his loss, the pledge kept by the deceased actor had met in line to his father's pledge. 

Yes, Puneeth Rajkumar's eyes were donated following his untimely demise. His father, legendary actor Rajkumar had made a pledge to donate his eyes in Bengaluru during the inauguration of the Narayana Nethralaya in 1994. Rajkumar had died in 2006 and after his demise, his wishes were fulfilled as his eyes were donated. Rajkumar had inspired many to donate their eyes after their death and his sons - Shiva Rajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar had pledged to donate their eyes after their demise. 

According to reports, legendary actor, Rajkumar had believed that sight is precious and that there is no point in burying or burning healthy eyes that can be used to help someone else. As Puneeth had made a similar pledge, his eyes were donated after he breathed his last on Friday in Bengaluru. Puneeth, whom the fans called Power star, had complained of chest pain while working out in a gym. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital and later, he was shifted to Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru at around 11.30 am.

He was brought at a critical state and amid the treatments, he had breathed his last. Karnataka Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan has confirmed Puneeth Rajkumar's demise. The minister said, "He had accomplished immensely from an early age. It is difficult to believe that he, who has always been the backbone of constructive programs, is no more." The actor had left behind his wife and two daughters. He was active in the industry for the past three decades and besides acting, he was also known for his versatility. He had done playback singing, television presently, and produced movies in Kannada cinema.

He had acted in the lead role in over 30 movies and after learning about his demise, several political leaders and fraternities are paying tribute to the deceased actor. In his tribute note, Tamil actor Ajithkumar said, "Saddened to hear the unfortunate demise of Shri Puneeth Kumar Ji, may his family and friends gain strength to overcome this grief." Earlier on Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that Puneeth Rajkumar's final rites will take place with full state honours. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media and wrote, "A cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor, Puneeth Rajkumar. This was no age to go. The coming generations will remember him fondly for his works and wonderful personality. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti." Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman wrote, "Condolences on the passing away of #PuneethRajkumar. A bright star. He had a long promising career ahead. My condolences to his family, his innumerable fans and his followers". Though Puneeth's presence would be no more, he will live long through his eyes.
