Historical milestone for MK Stalin as he swears in as the 12th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu!

In what has become a historical milestone in his political career, DMK President MK Stalin has sworn in as the 12th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Friday in a ceremony that was hosted by Raj Bhavan, Governor's mansion, in Chennai. Stalin has assumed the Office of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time, exactly four days after the declaration of the election results in the recently-held assembly polls. 

Governor Banwarilal Purohit has administered the oath of office and secrecy for MK Stalin. The people close to him in the ceremony hall and across the state had gone emotional and celebrated when MK Stalin took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He has assumed as the head of the government after securing a landslide victory by defeating the ADMK in the legislative election, which is the first election for Stalin as the DMK President.

Along with MK Stalin, his 33 cabinet ministers had also sworn in to their respective offices and his cabinet is made up of 15 first-timers. The visuals from the Raj Bhavan had shown the Governor administering the oath of office and secrecy for each minister as per the protocol. The Raj Bhavan has kept the ceremony non-lavish in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the authorities had deployed strict security and protocols measures during the entire duration.

The ceremony began at around 9 am and according to reports, MK Stalin has taken the oath at 9.30 am followed by the cabinet ministers. The event was kept under a tight radar and Raj Bhavan had mandated every participant to produce the COVID-19 negative test report and advised to wear masks and observe social distancing during the ceremony. MK Stalin's family including his wife Durga Stalin, his son and newly elected MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin had participated in the ceremony. 

Besides them, various dignitaries including the judges of the Madras High Court, leaders of various political parties, and the high-ranking authorities of the state government had participated in the ceremony. MK Stalin's cabinet picks had drawn huge attention over its formation as he has reserved nearly 50% of his cabinet berth for the new faces while the rest has gone to the experienced hands and bigshots of the party. 

MK Stalin will be convening his first cabinet meeting at 4 pm on Friday to discuss and take stock of the Covid situation in the state and framing new strategies and measures to contain the second wave of the pandemic. As the baton of addressing the health and financial crises in the state had gone to the hands of MK Stalin, he is getting ready for a real battle than relishing the spectacular victory. 

Following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Stalin will be virtually meeting the district collectors to understand the situation of the pandemic of the local administrations and to expedite the containment measures. As the Chief Minister, Stalin will hold key portfolios of the government including the home department, administrative and police services, special programmes, and the welfare of the differently-abled persons. 

Some of his top cabinet ministers include Duraimurugan (Water resources), KN Nehru (Municipal Administration), EV Velu (Public Works Department), K Ponmudi (Higher Education Department), and I Periyasamy (Co-operation). Some of the first-time ministers include  Ma Subramanian (Health and Family Welfare), Palanivel Thiagarajan (Finance and Human Resources Management), and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi (School Education Department). With the young and experienced fleet, Stalin will be forming the 16th assembly with a resounding majority. The DMK alliance has totally won 159 seats off 234 seats in the assembly polls and DMK alone had won 133 seats, 15 seats more than the majority mark of 118.
