History is made in Bengal...Mamata Banerjee takes oath as the Chief Minister for the third consecutive time!

History is written in West Bengal as Mamata Banerjee has sworn in as the Chief Minister for the third consecutive time on Wednesday after her Trinamool Congress (TMC) party has etched a remarkable victory in the state assembly polls by triumphing over the Central ruling BJP in a tightly fought race for the reign.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mamata Banerjee in the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan, the Governor's mansion. She sworn in as the Chief Minister at around 10.55 am on Wednesday as the entire nation watched the historical milestone being unfolded in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee has become the only woman Chief Minister in India to form the government for the third consecutive time.

Mamata Banerjee is the only woman Chief Minister in India currently and her swearing-in ceremony has come at the backdrop of the grounds of violence in the state and the TMC and BJP were in a war of words with mutual allegations between each other for the arson. Mamata Banerjee has also become one of the Chief Ministers in India to assume the office by losing the race individually and with the arm of the resounding majority of her party.

Mamata's TMC has won 213 seats in the assembly of 294 seats in the recently held legislative elections as the Bengal voters gifted debacle for Modi's hope in grappling the state from the hands of Mamata Banerjee. The state had gone through eight phases of polls and the BJP had held staunch campaigns and rallies in the state and the voters have given the Central ruling party a thin euphoria in the massive fiasco.

While Mamata has won 213 seats, two seats more than the preceding assembly elections, the BJP had secured 77 seats, 74 seats more than the 2016 elections. In this election, Mamata had contested in the Nandigram constituency to take on his former aide Suvendu Adhikari, who drifted the TMC party and joined the BJP with a battalion of TMC leaders. Mamata was determined to defeat Adhikari in Nandigram, but she had eventually lost the race in the margin of 1700 votes.

Though she had lost the race, the TMC party has secured 213 seats, a spectacular majority through which she had sought Governor Dhankar's consent to form the government. With the majority mark in the assembly, the Governor and invited Mamata to form the next government and as practice, she had moved her resignation to the Governor to end the tenure of the current government and she has on Wednesday sworn in as the Chief Minister to form the new government in the state.

The ceremony was held in Raj Bhavan and the Governor had administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mamata Banerjee and she has officially assumed the office of the Chief Minister. Following the oath, Mamata Banerjee and the Governor had exchanged greetings and after taking the oath, Mamata Banerjee has said, "My first priority is tackling the Covid pandemic. I will go to Nabanna (Chief Minister's Office) now and hold a meeting about the measures we are talking about this crisis."

"I will hold a press conference at 3 pm and let you know what measures we are taking," Mamata Banerjee added. She further said, "My second priority is to tackle law and order in the state. I appeal to all political parties to refrain from any sort of violence. I will be posting special officers to handle the situation. We will handle the situation sternly." She stated that she will set up a new police system and tackle the violence with the utmost firmness.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said, "I congratulate Mamata Ji on her third term. Our priority is that we must bring an end to this senseless violence that has affected society at large. I have every hope that the Chief Minister on an urgent basis will take all steps to restore rule of law." Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Congratulations to Mamata Didi on taking oath as West Bengal’s Chief Minister." As Mamata Banerjee has taken the oath not as an elected MLA but through the majority numbers of her party in the assembly, she has to become the MLA in six months from now to retain the office.
