'Holy land has now become a land of rapists' - Madras HC on a shocking incident in TN!

While hearing a case related to the migrant workers, the Madras High Court has on Thursday iterated a hard tone against rising cases of sexual violence against women by stating that the holy land of India has now become a land of rapists, referring to the recent government's data which revealed that the country is witnessing a rape for every 15 minutes.

According to reports, the high court was hearing a plea relating to migrant workers that was filed by advocate Suryaprakasam. During the hearing, the advocate has highlighted a recent incident in Tamil Nadu where a migrant worker from Assam was gang-raped in Tiruppur district and the incident had drawn major attention amid the nationwide outrage that has been centered at the Uttar Pradesh government against the gang-rapes of two Dalit women in Hathras and Balrampur district.

The incident that occurred in Tamil Nadu has brought the calls and demands to tighten the law and trials to deliver justice for the victims. The reports say a 22-year-old migrant worker from Assam was staying in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and searching for a job. In her job hunt, she had approached a person called Rajeshkumar in Tirupur.

Rajeshkumar has assured to get her a job in Tiruppur in a garment unit and he had asked her to come to his residence. However, with no immediate jobs, the reports stated that Rajeshkumar had asked his brother to drop her in the bus stand. However, his brother took her to an isolated place where four of his friends were already there and they gang-raped her. After the issue came to the light, the police had arrested three persons in connection to the case and searching for the remaining accused.

By quoting the incident, advocate Suryaprakasam had told the High court bench that the assailants are targeting women from the vulnerable communities including migrant workers. The assailants are taking the state of poverty and lack of support of such vulnerable women as their advantage to commit the crime as such women won't be at the stage of fighting for justice.

The advocate further said that the affected migrant workers would go back to their native place and the culprits would target another woman. After hearing the arguments, the high court issued a hard tone and said that 'Bharathabhoomi', India a holy land has now become a land of rapists, where a rape occurs every 15 minutes.

While speaking to a news agency following the hearing, advocate Suryaprakasam told that he had pleaded the court to provide shelter and care for the affected women and he also sought a directive from the court to install a special investigation team led by the Deputy Inspector General and added that he has also requested the court to order the government to provide financial assistance for the affected migrant worker from Assam under the victims' compensation scheme.
