DMK's MLA J Anbazhagan, who is one of the top leaders of the party observing close ties in the leadership circle, has been getting treated under ventilator support at a private hospital in Chennai after he has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19), becoming the first sitting legislator in Tamil Nadu to get contracted to the virus.

The doctors who are treating the legislator have, on Friday morning, said that his health condition remains critical and he has been under continuous support of the ventilator to help his breathing and stated that his parameters are stable and has been getting monitored the medical team. The treating doctors' statement has come a day after the hospital released a bulletin concerning the health condition and treatment of the DMK leader.

Anbazhagan has been admitted at Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Center at Chrompet, Chennai on June 2, and according to the hospital's bulletin which released on Thursday, the legislator was presented with severe acute respiratory distress and he was tested positive for the virus at the time of admission. 

Initially, he was managed with oxygen therapy through the facemask and he has been getting 80% of oxygen through the ventilator on Thursday. According to the latest reports, he is currently receiving 67% of oxygen through the ventilator. Anbazhagan has developed some discomforts to his health on June 2 following which he was rushed to the hospital. The recent reports that came on Friday evening said that he has been receiving 47% of oxygen through the ventilator and the hospital stated that he has been recovering from the critical condition.

He was seen active on the ground with other party members for over a month to distribute the relief materials for the people who are affected due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown, as part of DMK Chief Stalin's 'Ondrinaivoom Va' initiative through which the party is reaching out to the people and working with the communities and volunteers across the state. 

Anbazhagan is the current MLA of Chepauk- Triplicane legislative constituency and he is also been serving as one of the party's secretaries of the Chennai district. He is aged 61 and he had undergone the liver transplant surgery before 25 years which is currently his comorbidity.
