How hard it was to score music for Ponniyin Selvan? Isai Puyal A R Rahman opens up!

Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan', which is by far an ecstatic project of Kollywood, is close to getting unfolded on the big screens. The year 2022 has been fortunate enough to witness the humongous release of Ponniyin Selvan and to relish the unprecedented cluster of stars. The movie has been slated for a theatrical release on September 30 and on Friday- July 8, the teaser of the movie was launched at a grand event that was held in Chennai.

Most of the crew members attended the event and the teaser of the multilingual movie was released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman composed the music and at the teaser launch event, Rahman has opened up about how hard it was to score the music for an iconic project during which he said that he travelled abroad to gauge the musical requirement for the movie. 

Speaking at the event, Rahman said, "I have learned from Mani Ratnam about how to bring out the best in a normal person. There is no need to speak about the movie. This is our movie. India's movie. We have thought about how to compose the music for such a huge movie. We have gone to Bali for research and we stayed there for weeks for we did research about the musical instruments and when we came back, Covid lockdown was imposed." 

Rahman has cited that it was very hard and challenging to complete this project. "My salute to everyone for bringing out this magnificent movie at the cost of their lives. We knew that we have lost many to Covid and my salute to everyone. I hope everyone likes my music", Rahman added. The teaser has caught major attention from across and beyond the borders. Lyca Productions, which bankrolls the movie, took to Twitter and wrote, "The Cholas are coming. #PS1 releasing in theatres on 30th September in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada!" 

The one-minute teaser is a clip high on action, adventurous, fantasy feast, presenting the Cholas in a most prestigious way.  With Thota Tharrani's production design, and Sanjiv Anand Naik's VFX supervising, the teaser is nothing but a fantasy feast for the film buffs. The flick has packed with an ensemble cast- Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vijayakumar, Nassar, and Balaji Sakthivel will play important roles.

With the release date locked as September 30, and the excitement surrounding Ponniyin Selvan is rising with every day for the next update of the trailer launch, just to get a little more time in the Chola dynasty by sneak peeking. While the captivating teaser in Tamil was released by Suriya, Bollywood biggie Amitabh Bachchan has released the teaser in Hindi and Mahesh Babu, Rakshit Shetty, and Mohanlal have released the teaser in Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam respectively.
