Simbu's much-awaited movie 'Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu' got released in the theatres on September 15 and opened to positive reviews and great acclaim. The movie marked the third time collaboration between a stupendous combo of Simbu- Gautham Menon - A R Rahman after 'Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' and 'Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada'. The unification has poured more expectations on Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.

It has now been reported that the movie indeed had a successful opening at the box office. Though there have been no official numbers from the makers, several trade reports suggest that the gangster movie made more than Rs 7 crore on its first day in Tamil Nadu and on the second day, on Friday, the movie earned nearly Rs 10 crore, though the trackers clash with the exact fixtures.

As the weekend approaches, the makers are expecting that the coffers will have a great fill from across and beyond the borders. Earlier, Gautham Vasudev Menon said that if the movie goes well, it will have a sequel. Written by Jeyamohan, the first part of the movie has been titled 'Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu: The Kindling'. On Saturday, a popular film trade analyst tweeted, "#VTK in UAE, Singapore, and Malaysia top 5 Box Office charts."

Renowned film critic Sreedhar Pillai took to Twitter and wrote, "#VTK good WOM (Word of Mouth) pushes up theatre count from day 2, especially in multiplexes. Looks like A R Rahman, Gautham Menon, and Simbu trio is attracting youth & family back to cinemas. Expecting a strong weekend as advance booking is fab." On Saturday, Pillai tweeted, "#VTK box office numbers as per official sources for day 1 & 2 in TN: Day 1: ₹10.86 Cr - Thu Day 2: ₹8.51 Crores - Fri Total gross: ₹19.37 Cr."

Simbu and Siddhi Idnani play the lead roles in the movie while Radhikaa Sarathkumar, Siddique, Neeraj Madhav and Aangelina Abraham are seen in supporting roles. The film has music scored by AR Rahman and the digital rights are acquired by Amazon Prime Video. The movie is produced by Ishari K Ganesh under his banner Vels Films International while it is distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies.
