How's Ponniyin Selvan doing at box office? The maker reveals the total gross of the movie!

Ponniyin Selvan appears to be Mani Ratnam's crowning achievement as it is delivering a thumping performance all over the world. According to trade reports, a great deal of anticipation worked and filled the theatres. On Saturday, during the second day of the movie's release, the maker revealed how much the movie has grossed worldwide in two days. 

On Saturday, Lyca Productions, which bankrolled the movie, took to Twitter and wrote, "Thank you for giving PS 1 the biggest ever opening day for Tamil cinema worldwide." The production house has said that Ponniyin Selvan has grossed a whopping Rs 80 crores worldwide. The poster read, "Biggest ever opening day for Tamil Cinema." 

The adaptation of Kalki's historical novel Ponniyin Selvan was transported to Tamil actors and directors like M.G. Ramachandran and Kamal Haasan, who had attempted but eventually, dropped. Finally, it has now successfully moved from pen to screens, through Mani Ratnam. Sources in the know have said that the number of screens and watchers for Ponniyin Selvan's first part will rise, as the weekend is approaching. 

A renowned film trade analyst reported that Ponniyin Selvan 1 is the third highest grosser in Tamil Nadu on an opening day after Beast and Valimai, while Kamal Haasan's Vikram stands at fourth place. He wrote, "Grossing more than 26.6cr in Tamil Nadu, #PonniyinSelvan is the third highest opening day grosser for the year 2022."  

Produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, Ponniyin Selvan has its music composed by A R Rahman and Ravi Varman done cinematography. While Sreekar Prasad took care of the editing, Thota Tharani has done the artwork. The movie was released on September 30 in five languages- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. 

While the role of Aditha Karikalan is portrayed by Vikram, Kundavai is featured by Trisha, and Jayam Ravi sported the role of Arulmozhi Varman. Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan is played by Karthi, and Nandini is done by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Along with them, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Rahman, Shobita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, and Ashwin Kakumanu play crucial roles.
