Huge honor for Soorarai Pottru: Proud moment and exciting news for Suriya fans!

In relishing news for Suriya fans, 'Soorarai Pottru' has got a huge honor after the movie has been nominated as one of the Best Indian films and has become the recipient of the Critics Choice Film Awards (CCFA). The CCFA is a platform to celebrate diversity and flair in Indian films. According to its website, being a pan-India award, CCFA will represent the diverse range of film making in the country. It will honor the talent and display the rich culture of films across languages, styles, and themes. 

The CCFA has on Saturday unveiled the nominations for the award categories. In what has become diversified picks, the CCFA has announced the multi-lingual nominations from the best film to the best actor. Ten movies of various languages have made into the club of Best Film and they include Sir (Hindi), Soorarai Pottru (Tamil), Bhonsle (Hindi), Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), C U Soon (Malayalam), Thappad (Hindi), Eeb Allay Ooo (Hindi), Widow of Silence (Urdu), Chintu Ka Birthday (Hindi), and Tasher Ghawr (Bengali). 

These ten movies have been nominated as the recipients of the award of Best Film 2020. Under the category of Best Director, Rohena Gera - Sir (Hindi), Prateek Vats -Eeb Allay Ooo (Hindi), Sachy- Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), Anubhav Sinha - Thappad (Hindi), and Devashish Makhija - Bhonsle (Hindi) have been nominated for the award. The CCFA has nominated Manoj Bajpayee - Bhonsle (Hindi), Shardul Bhardwaj - Eeb Allay Ooo (Hindi), Biju Menon - Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), Fahadh Faasil - Trance (Malayalam), and Nawazuddin Siddiqui - Serious Men (Hindi) for the category of Best Actor. 

Under the category of Best Actress, Tillotama Shome - Sir (Hindi), Taapsee Pannu - Thappad (Hindi), Swastika Mukherjee -Tasher Ghawr (Bengali), Aishwarya Rajesh - Ka Pae Ranasingam (Tamil), and Shilpi Marwaha - Widow of Silence (Urdu) have been nominated for the award while Pankaj Tripathi -Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (Hindi), Anil Nedumangad - Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), Prakash Raj - Paava Kadhaigal (Tamil), Rajkummar Rao -Ludo (Hindi), and Pankaj Tripathi - Ludo (Hindi) have been nominated for the award of Best Supporting Actor. 

In the category of Best Supporting Actress, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan - Thappad (Hindi), Sai Pallavi - Paava Kadhaigal (Tamil), Indira Tiwari -Serious Men (Hindi), Gowri Nandha - Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), and Urvashi- Varane Avashyamund (Malayalam) have been nominated. Mahesh Narayanan- CU Soon (Malayalam), Rameshwar Bhagat - Bulbbul (Hindi), Ranjan Abraham - Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), Anand Subaya- Lootcase (Hindi), and Sathish Suriya - Soorarai Pottru (Tamil) have been nominated for the award of Best Editing. 

Under the category of Best Writing, Bhonsle (Hindi), Ayyappanum Koshiyum (Malayalam), Thappad (Hindi), Soorarai Pottru (Tamil), and Chintu Ka Birthday (Hindi) have been selected for the award while Siddharth Diwan - Bulbbul (Hindi), Anurag Basu and Rajesh Shukla - Ludo (Hindi), Edwin Sakay- Andhaghaaram (Tamil), Niketh Bomireddy - Soorarai Pottru (Tamil), and Tanveer Mir- Psycho (Tamil)  have been nominated for the award of Best Cinematography. 

The CCFA comes up with the categories of Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Writing, and Gender Sensitivity Award. The CCFA has said that the winners will be awarded based on a two-tier transparent voting process led by the country's most credible Critics' Association. 

It further stated that CCFA aims to be representative of the diversity of Indian cinema and honor the best films of 2020 from across the country. Speaking about the nominations, Anupama Chopra, the Chairperson of Film Critics Guild said, "Even in a challenging year, there was great quality. The nominations of the third edition of the Critics' Choice Awards is proof of that. We are extremely excited to honor artists and technicians in feature films, web series, and short films across all Indian languages".
