Huge shock for Vijay fans...Election Commission rejects the demand from Vijay Makkal Iyakkam!

Amid getting prepared for the upcoming urban local body polls in Tamil Nadu, the fans of actor Vijay and the members of his outfit 'Vijay Makkal Iyakkam' have braced up a huge shock after the state Election Commission has rejected what the outfit has picked as its symbol for the elections. The members have been busy making the arrangements for the electoral race and there have been speculations that the actor himself would finalize the candidates.

Actor Vijay's outfit has given a good competition in the rural local body polls held last year and the actor's young fanbase has formed a significant voter circle for Vijay Makkal Iyakkam in a fashion that it has got more seats than some of the full-time political parties. In last year's rural local body polls, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has won over 115 seats and the victory has come when the actor has been surfaced with speculations over his political entry.

It was the first time that the members of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has contested in the polls and they had managed to win more seats than Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam and Seeman's Naam Tamilar Katchi. The members of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam have won several local body seats in the newly demarcated districts including Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Ranipet, and Tirupattur.

With the wave of support and fanbase across the state for the actor, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam will now be contesting in the urban local body polls. As per Tamil Nadu State Election Commission's notification, the urban local body polls would be held on February 19. The polls will be electing 12,820 posts and they include - 21 mayors, 138 chairmen for municipalities, 490 town panchayats.

The polls will also be electing 1,064 councillors for municipal corporations, 3,468 councillors for municipalities, and 8,288 councillors for town panchayats. The polling will be held on February 19th and the votes will be counted on February 22nd and the results will be announced thereafter. It has been reported that the members are waiting for approval from Vijay to use his name and photo during the polls. Weeks ahead of the polls, the outfit has been hit by a disappointment over the selection of the election symbol.

According to reports, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam Secretary Bussy Anand has on Saturday - January 29 held a discussion on the candidate selection with the outfit members. Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has asked for the 'Auto' symbol as its official symbol for the urban local body polls. However, the Tamil Nadu Election Commission has rejected the request for the Auto symbol, which had shocked the fans and members. The Election Commission has said that the Auto symbol can't be granted as the outfit is not registered with the Election Commission of India. The reports say that the outfit is working out to come up with a new symbol.
