Actor Vikram's much-awaited movie 'Cobra' has finally revealed its release date on Friday - May 20. The huge update has been going viral as the ardent fans of Vikram celebrate the news, though it warrants them to wait for quite a long period. Yes, Cobra will hit the big screens worldwide three months from now, which adds more wait time for the already delayed movie.

According to the movie team, Cobra will be released on August 11. Vikram has completed the project a few months ago and the movie's first single 'Adheera' has already been going viral. The team has on Friday released a promo, that featured a 3D animated avatar of Vikram, that announced the official release date. Director Ajay Gnanamuthu, who has helmed this project, took to Twitter and wrote, "Cobra- Worldwide theatrical release on August 11."

Interestingly, AR Rahman has composed music for Cobra and the Oscar-winning composer has also shared the release date of the movie on Twitter. In Cobra, it has been touted that Vikram will feature in several roles, which has poured more expectations towards the movie. The principal shooting of the movie had begun on October 4, 2019, and there were changes, deferments, twists, and turns until the entire shooting was completed recently.

Cobra is bankrolled by SS Lalit Kumar under his banner Seven Screen Studios. While Vikram plays the lead role, KGF fame Srinidhi Shetty plays the female lead with Miya George, former cricketer Irfan Pathan, Mrinalini Ravi, Roshan Mathew, KS Ravikumar, Robo Shankar, and Anandraj playing important roles. Notably, Cobra's director Ajay Gnanamuthu is known for his previous projects 'Demonte Colony' and 'Imaikkaa Nodigal'.

Lalit Kumar has announced the release date on Friday. The movie was originally scheduled for a release on May 22, 2020, on the occasion of Eid. However, the release was deferred due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In March 2021, it has been said that the post-production of the movie might take a longer time than planned and many sequences had to be re-shot. Meanwhile, Vikram is currently busy with a slew of projects including Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' and Gautam Menon's 'Dhruva Natchathiram'.
