Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, is all set to direct her father in her upcoming film Lal Salaam, a cricket-based drama that also stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth. The film, which is backed by Lyca Productions and has music by AR Rahman, is currently being shot in Mumbai.

On Sunday, Aishwarya took to social media to share a picture of her father from the sets of the film and penned an emotional post on working with him. She wrote, “I look at you …i never imagined there would come a day I’ll shoot with you …I admire you … I adore you … Sometimes I look through you… Most of the times I look at the world with you … I realise …I am you … Every single day appa …more and more I love you #shootingwiththesuperstar #lovemyjob #fatherdaughtergoals”.

This is the first time Aishwarya is directing Rajinikanth and their maiden professional collaboration. She had made her directorial debut in 2012 with Dhanush-starrer 3 and followed it up with Vai Raja Vai in 2015. Lal Salaam marks her comeback to feature film direction after eight years.

Rajinikanth, who was last seen in Annaatthe, will reportedly play a cameo role as Moideen Bhai, a Mumbai-based don, in Lal Salaam. The makers had revealed his first look poster last month and called him “everyone’s favourite bhai”. The film also features Jeevitha Rajashekar as Rajinikanth’s sister, making her comeback as an actress after 33 years.

Lal Salaam is expected to release theatrically later this year. Rajinikanth is also busy with his next film Jailer, directed by Nelson and slated to release on August 10, 2023. The film also brings together stars from three Indian film industries - Rajinikanth from Tamil, Mohanlal from Malayalam and Shiva Rajkumar from Kannada.
