India and Bharat: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor coins new name "BHARAT' for opposition bloc...What it stands for?

In the midst of the ruling BJP regime's alleged arbitrary attempts of renaming the country India to Bharat, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has coined a new name for the united opposition coalition that has been called INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). Tharoor's suggestion has drawn attention as it has come at a high time when the opposition leaders had expressed their views that the Modi regime has decided to alter the name of the country after the opposition bloc has flanked INDIA as its label.

Though such a name change has been termed rumours, there have been sharp indications that the name change is in the offing. The debate over altering India's name as Bharat was sparked by an intivation sent out by the President for the global leaders to participate in the G20 dinner during the summit, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 9 and 10. The invite had apparently discarded the status quo as 'The President of India' was mentioned as 'President of Bharat'.

The Prime Minister's invite followed suit as the Prime Minister of Bharat. These events had triggered nationwide talks that the Modi regime is seriously mulling changing the country's name as Bharat. While the BJP supporters welcomed the name change as Bharat, the opposition parties had flayed the centre for instilling the agenda of RSS, the BJP's parent body, as recently, the RSS chief had advocated to change the country's name from India to Bharat.

The opposition leaders had further said that the Modi regime had orchestrated the change as it dislikes the opposition parties getting united under the label of INDIA. When these events have become a talk of the town, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has come up with a new name 'BHARAT' for the opposition bloc. According to the Congress MP, the acronym for the new name stands for Alliance for 'Betterment, Harmony, And Responsible Advancement for Tomorrow'.

Sharing the acronym that he coined on X, formerly known as Twitter, Tharoor wrote, "We could of course call ourselves the Alliance for Betterment, Harmony And Responsible Advancement for Tomorrow (BHARAT). Then perhaps the ruling party might stop this fatuous game of changing names." On the other hand, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yetchury on Wednesday asked what will happen if the opposition bloc renames its alliance from INDIA to BHARAT.

ANI has quoted Yetchury saying, "The (BJP's) intention behind changing it to Bharat is questionable. Opposition parties and secular forces have come together with the name of INDIA. They (BJP) are so agitated with INDIA that they have started using Bharat. What if the opposition creates an abbreviation named Bharat?"
