Is India becoming unsafe year by year? Here's the revelation of NCRB!

The 2018 edition of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which functions under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had exhumed the shocking and appalling revelation that India must be embarrassed as the records have pictured that the country had reported with an average of 80 murders, 289 kidnappings, and 91 rapes every single day in the year of 2018.

The year of 2018 had comparatively signaled the rise of the fear and anxiety among the communities particularly women as the year had recorded with increasing numbers of crimes than that of the preceding ones of 2017 and 2016. The NCRB had exposed that the total of 50,74,634 cognizable crimes have been filed in the country in 2018 and of this massive scale, about 31,32,954 were booked under the grounds of Indian Penal Code (IPC) while the rest were in the books of Special and Local Laws and for the year of 2017, the numbers stood at 50,07,044 cases.

The reports say that the cognizable cases were derived under the basis of the one in which the police officials can probe the crime without the directive of the judicial body like magistrate court and they can detain the suspect without an arrest warrant. The Bureau had indicated that in the year of 2018, a total of 29,017 cases of murder were registered that increased about 1.3% of total cases in 2017- 28, 653 cases.

The data had listed out the top reasons behind the motive of murder charges and 'Disputes' stood in the first place with 9,623 cases followed by enmity or a personal vendetta that accounted for 3,875 cases and 'gain' was ranked in the third spot with 2,995 cases. On the other hand, the cases booked for kidnapping and abduction in 2018 were about 10.3% more while compared with 2017. In 2017, a total of 95,893 cases were registered while 2018 recorded with 1,05,734 cases.

Of those total cases of kidnappings and abductions, about 80,871 females and 24,665 males were reportedly kidnapped or abducted and out of which 63,356 (15,250 male and 48,106 female) were children and minors while 42,180 (9,415 male and 32,765 female) were adults. The data also underlined that a total of 92,137 kidnapped persons were rescued where 91,709 rescued alive while the rest were rescued dead.

2018 has become the year of testament as the country doesn't house the safe and secure grounds for women as, in 2018, about 3,78,277 cases were booked under the crimes against women and that was huge increase while compared to 2017 which recorded with 3,59,849 cases and 2016 was concluded with 3,38,954 cases and so does the number of rape cases as for the year of 2018, about 33,356 cases were booked under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code and 2017 was accounted with 32,559 cases. The data has stated that a total of 67,134 children including 19,784 male, 47,191 female, and 159 transgender were reported missing in 2018.
