India lost the match but Ashwin becomes the first Indian spinner to achieve this unique record!

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has got another significant feather in his cap of achievements in his cricketing career as on Monday, he has recorded a remarkable feat of becoming the first Indian spinner to take the wicket off the first ball of Test innings, and what more special is that he had achieved the feat in his hometown, Chennai.

Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team is playing against England in a four-match test series. The series is hosted by India and the first test had begun on February 5 in MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai amid no in-person attendance.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. The English players put on a splendid gameshow and gave a huge target for India, which started the series with the momentum of defeating Australia at home recently.

The first test has concluded on Tuesday and India has lost the match as England won the match by 227 runs. However, if there is one thing that can be a takeaway from the first match is Ashwin's record. The reputed spinner has on Monday achieved the unique record as he became the first Indian spinner to take a wicket off the first ball of the innings in Test cricket. He achieved the record during England's second innings on Day Four of the first test match.

He made the feat after dismissing England's batsman Rory Burns. Along with becoming the first Indian spinner to take a wicket off the first ball of the innings, Ashwin had got six wickets for 61 runs. Marking his 28th five-wicket haul, Ashwin had delivered an excellent performance with the ball. While Ashwin took six wickets, pacers Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah had taken one wicket each.

England had ended its second innings on Monday after getting dismissed for 178, but as the visitors had scored 578 runs in their first innings, India has the toughest target of 420. With the huge target on board, India began the chase only to witness a major stumble. Besides captain Virat Kohli (72 runs off 104 balls) and Shubman Gill (50 runs off 83 balls), no Indian batsmen put a momentum of taking towards the chase.

As the sequel of the well-packed bowling line-up of the visitors, India was losing the wickets at regular intervals and on Tuesday, India's winning campaign has come to an end after bowled out for 192 by losing all the wickets.

On the visitors' side, Jack Leach has got four wickets while James Anderson has got three wickets whereas Archer, Bess, and Stokes had got one wicket each. Pushing the host to brace up the loss, England has taken the lead in the four-match series with 1-0. The second test match will begin on 13th February and it will also be hosted by Chennai while the rest two matches will be hosted by the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
