India is over the Moon with Chandrayaan-3's historical success: Now, ISRO gears up for the next big project!

India is over the moon after Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) lunar mission Chandrayaan -3 has successfully landed on the south pole the Moon, which led India to write history as the first country to land on the south side. The Vikram lander has made a soft touchdown on the lunar surface on Wednesday - August 23 at 6.03 pm and the Praygan rover is out of the lander's belly to explore the unexplored region.

With the success, the entire country has been celebrating the historical moment. However, ISRO has limited its celebrations and it is gearing up for the next big project that would further the agency's milestone in its space odyssey. After the Moon, the time has now come to turn towards the other side - India's next target is exploring the Sun.

Speaking to the reporters following the success of Chandrayaan-3 landing, ISRO Chairman Somanath said the Aditya-L1 satellite for the Sun mission will be launched during the first week of September. According to the space agency, the Aditya satellite will take around 120 days to travel about 15 lakh kilometres to reach its destination to study the solar atmosphere.

Aditya -L1 will be the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun and it will be launched from India's iconic launchpad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. According to ISRO, the spacecraft will be placed into a halo orbit around the first Lagrange point, L1, of the Sun-Earth system. The satellite around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without occultation/eclipses.

The Aditya -L1 satellite will be carried by the Indian rocket, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). Following the mission to the Sun, ISRO also has a handful of projects in its pipeline including Gaganyaan, which is India's human space mission. It has been reported that the Gaganyaan abort mission will happen during September end or during the first week of October this year.
