India under 21 days lockdown: Is PMK Chief Ramadoss behind Modi's announcement?

In an unprecedented experiment, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought the entire nation under a three-weeks lockdown to curb the spread of the Coronavirus and to break its chain as the global pandemic has been affecting hundreds across the country. 

During the lockdown period, about 1 billion of the country's population would be under self-isolation in their homes and the Central government has suspended the channels of transportation, imposed severe restrictions, shut down all the non-essential services and its operations, and closed down the borders to arrest the movement of the people and vehicles. Modi has been strictly monitoring the state governments on how the lockdown has been implemented.

Our sources say that he has been updated regarding the developments from the states every one hour and the Prime Minister's office is in direct contact with the higher authorities of the states. The Tamil Nadu BJP members who are observing ties with the Central government reveal that PMK's founder Ramadoss has been one of the reasons behind Modi's announcement of a complete nationwide lockdown for 21 days.

Being a doctor, they say, PMK's MP Anbumani Ramadoss was in clear awareness about the calamity that has been causing by the Coronavirus in India based on the reports from the doctors in the international countries and Anbumani has iterated that the 21 days lockdown must be the only solution to contain the spread of the virus. In accordance with Anbumani's notion, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has directly dialed to PMK Chief Ramadoss and held a discussion concerning the development.

The sources stated that during the conversation with the Finance Minister, Ramadoss expressed that he wishes to speak with Prime Minister Modi following which the call has been scheduled between Modi and Ramadoss on Sunday. Around 11 pm on Sunday, Ramadoss had spoken with Modi. According to one of the PMK leaders, Ramadoss conveyed to the Prime Minister that the complete lockdown for at least 15 days must be rolled out to contain the spread of the virus as it has been getting rampant across the country. Ramadoss pressed the containing the spread would be the only solution in the absence of the vaccine.

Ramadoss appealed to the Prime Minister to impose a complete lockdown. Along with Ramadoss, our sources stated that the medical experts in AIIMS, Delhi and virology specialists in the United States and Japan have suggested the lockdown to the Prime Minister. By citing that the Central government is reviewing the situations to implement the lockdown, Modi has thanked Ramadoss for his notion following which the Prime Minister made a televised address to the nation on Tuesday during which he imposed a nationwide lockdown for the next 21 days and the PMK leader claimed that Ramadoss's notion has been one of the reasons behind Modi's announcement of the lockdown.

This nationwide lockdown has restricted the movement of the people, ceased the transportation channels and closed the borders with the view of gripping up the fight against the Coronavirus. While addressing the residents of Varanasi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi stated that the nation aims to win the war against the Coronavirus in 21 days and appealed to the people to stay at home and refrain from unnecessary travels to avoid the riks of getting affected by the virus. As of Thursday noon, the virus has infected more than 650 people in the country and claimed the lives of 15 people.
