INDIA vs BJP: The first big move of the opposition bloc against Modi regime...Why no-Confidence motion in Lok Sabha?

In what has become a first big move of the Opposition front - INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), the parties have decided to bring a no-Confidence motion against the Modi regime in Lok Sabha on Wednesday - July 26. The move will come in the midst of the opposition bloc's heated protest against the Modi government over the Manipur violence that has majorly stalled the ongoing Monsoon session of the Parliament.

After a hectic discussion on Tuesday, the opposition parties have finally decided to bring a no-Confidence motion against the Modi regime in the lower house on Wednesday. Congress party's whip in the Lok Sabha, Kodikunnil Suresh has directed the party's MPs to be present in the Lok Sabha from the commencement till the adjournment on Wednesday as very important issues will be taken up for discussion in the lower house.

IANS has quoted the sources saying that the decision to table the no-Confidence motion was taken during the meeting of the leaders of the opposition bloc that was held in the parliament chamber of Congress national president and Rajya Sabha's Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge. The opposition leaders had expressed a sense that it is certain that the Modi regime will less likely respond to the collective demand from the Opposition, urging the Prime Minister to speak about the Manipur violence in Lok Sabha.

The leaders also felt that in the midst of logjam, the Modi regime would introduce bills in the lower house amid the protests and with the view to put pressure on the government, it was agreed among the leaders that the introduction of no-Confidence motion against the Modi regime is inevitable. As INDIA coalition prepares for its big move against the BJP, the Telangana-ruling Bharat Rashtriya Samithi (BRS), which isn't part of the alliance, has also jumped on the bandwagon to bring a no-Confidence motion against the Modi regime.

On Wednesday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has submitted a notice for no-Confidence motion. He made his submission at 9.20 am and the House Speaker will consider the notice when the floor commences today's session. The notice can be admitted only if it has the support of at least 50 MPs and as the opposition coalition has good numbers, the notice will get admitted after which the motion will be introduced in the house.

Along with Congress, BRS MP Nama Nageshwar Rao has also submitted notice for no-Confidence motion in Lok Sabha. Sending his notice to the Lok Sabha Secretary General, Rao said, "Under Rule 198 (b) of Chapter XVII of the Rule of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha, I hereby give notice to move the following motion (No-Confidence in the Council of Ministers) in the House. I request you to include the motion in the Revised List of Business for 26.07.2023."

However, though the Opposition's move to express no confidence against Modi administration has gained attraction, it won't turn as a troublemaker for BJP as even the motion gets admitted in the Lok Sabha with the support of 50 opposition MPs, it will fail if it goes for a voting. BJP enjoys a clear majority in the lower house while the opposition bloc only has 150 members and the motion would eventually be defeated.
