'Indian 2' mishap: Here's what Kamal Haasan is urging for!

Actor and President of Makkal Needhi Maiam party Kamal Haasan has called the Lyca productions, which is producing his next movie 'Indian 2', to ensure the safety of the technicians of the movie in the sets before starting the shoot.

In the letter that Haasan addressed to founder and chairman of Lyca Productions Subhaskaran, he further questioned the production house on the safety mechanisms that have been installed for the artists, technicians, and crew members in the movie set following the unexpected mishap at the movie sets last week. The letter was dated February 22nd and he said that the production team has to compensate for any loss, damage, and risk.

He further added that being the production house for the movie, Lyca must make sure to set up adequate medical help for the movie team while admitted to the hospital and it also has to provide financial and emotional support for the affected families and victims. He said that the sense of responsibility shouldn't determine the equation and the amount of compensation. He cited the production companies must hold the importance of ensuring the safety of the people involved in the movie and also urged the production units to constitute all the guidelines regarding safety and it should also access and scrutinize the safety standards at the sets before starting any shoot.

His letter has come days after the mishap occurred in Indian 2 movie sets in which three technicians have died while about nine were injured after the crane that was installed for the movie shoot had collapsed and stumbled on them. The incident happened on the night hours of Wednesday when Kamal Haasan starring Indian 2 movie was filmed at the EVP film city in Poonamallee on the outskirts of Chennai and the crane was fixed at the set to carry the heavy lighting. However, the crane lost control and collapsed and fell on the technicians who were standing on the ground.

The three deceased were identified as Madhu -the production assistant, Chandran - the art assistant, and Krishna - the assistant director who was working under Director Shankar in the movie. Actor and politician Kamal Haasan had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the families of the three deceased technicians while Lyca Productions said that the unit would provide a solatium of Rs 2 crore each to the families to the families of the injured and deceased and it has also stated that the company would take care the medical expenses. 

While speaking to the reporters after solacing the injured, Kamal Haasan said that he had a narrow escape in the set. He further urged the cinema industry to take the efforts to enhance the safety measures for the junior and on-ground employees on the movie sets. He added that he personally feels disgraced of not being able to save the lives of the ground level technicians.
