From Indian 2 to Thangalaan... Netflix to unleash this big lineup of films after the theatrical run!

Netflix, the global streaming giant, has announced that it has acquired the rights to stream six of the most awaited Tamil movies of 2024. The list includes some of the biggest names and talents in the industry, such as Kamal Hassan, Vikram, Ajith, Sivakarthikeyan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Keerthi Suresh. Here is a brief overview of the six movies that will be available on Netflix soon.

Thangalaan:

Thangalaan is a historical drama directed by Pa Ranjith, who is known for his socially relevant and politically charged films. The movie stars Vikram as a warrior, along with Malavika Mohanan Parvathy Thiruvothu. The movie is set in the pre independence era and explores the conflicts and alliances between factions for KGF mine. Thangalaan is slated to release in theatres in April 2024, and will be streamed shortly after.

Vidaamuyarchi:

Vidaamuyarchi is a thriller directed by Magizh Thirumeni, who has delivered some of the most gripping and suspenseful movies in Tamil cinema. The movie features Ajith, Arjun Sarja, Trisha, and Regina Cassandra.  The release date of Vidaamuyarchi is yet to be announced, but Netflix promises to stream it as soon as possible.

SK21:

SK21 is a patriotic drama produced by Kamal Hassan under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. The movie marks the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Kamal Hassan, who also plays a pivotal role in the movie. The movie also boasts of a stellar cast that includes Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose, Lallu Prasath, Gaurav Venkatesh, Mir Salman and others. The music for the movie is composed by GV Prakash, who is also teaming up with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. SK21 is expected to be a grand and inspiring movie that celebrates the spirit of India.

Indian 2:

Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Indian, which featured Kamal Hassan in a dual role as Senapathy, a freedom fighter-turned-vigilante who fights against corruption. Indian 2 will see Kamal Hassan reprise his roles, as well as introduce new characters played by Siddharth, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simhaa, and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

The movie is directed by Shankar, who is known for his extravagant and visionary movies. The movie is produced by Lyca Productions and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. Indian 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, and Netflix has secured the rights to stream it after its theatrical release.

Maharaja:

Maharaja is the 50th film of Vijay Sethupathi, who is one of the most versatile and acclaimed actors in Tamil cinema. The movie is directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, who made his debut with the critically acclaimed Kurangu Bommai. The movie also stars Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, and Natarajan Subramaniam.

The movie has a huge ensemble cast that includes Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Munishkanth Arul Doss, Boys Manikandan, Singam Puli, Vinod Sagar, and PL Thenappan. The movie has music by Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematography by Dinesh Purushothaman. Maharaja is jointly produced by Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios and Jagadish Palanisamy under the banner The Route. Maharaja is said to be a crime thriller that spans across different time periods and locations.

Sorgavaasal:

Sorgavaasal is a comedy film starring RJ Balaji, who is also a popular radio jockey and social activist. The movie is directed by Sidharth Viswanath, who is making his debut as a director. The movie also stars Karunas and Yogi Babu in the lead roles. The movie has a surprise addition of director and actor Selvaraghavan, who will be playing an important role in the movie. Sorgavaasal is produced by SNS Productions and has music by Santhosh Narayanan. Sorgavaasal is expected to be a fun and entertaining movie that will make the audience laugh out loud.

Revolver Rita:

Keerthi Suresh, the winner of the National Award for Best Actress, will be playing the lead role in K Chandru’s upcoming film Revolver Rita. The earlierly released poster of the film has a vintage feel, which hints at the possibility that the film is inspired by the 1970 classic of the same name by KSR Doss. It's worth remembering that the original Revolver Rita featured Vijayalalitha and Jothilakshmi as the female leads. 

Netflix has made a smart move by acquiring the rights to stream these six movies, which are sure to attract a huge number of cinephiles. Netflix has also shown its commitment to support and showcase the rich and diverse content of Tamil cinema.
