Indian Army chopper crashes in TN's Nilgiris: Four died and General Bipin Rawat was on board!

In a shocking piece of news, a chopper of the Indian Army has on Wednesday crashed in Coonoor in the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu and it has been reported that General Bipin Rawat, who is the Chief of Defence Staff, was on board. The chopper was crashed near a training camp at the Wellington Army Centre in Coonoor and the preliminary reports say that four officers have died and the state of Bipin Rawat is yet to be known. 

The chopper was carrying around ten people and it has crashed in the Katteri area in Coonoor due to bad weather. As soon as the mishap was reported, army and police officials have rushed to the spot and initiated rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased officers have been recovered and the reports say that around three people have sustained severe injuries that were taken to the hospital. 

ANI has reported that General Bipin Rawat, his wife, his staff, and some family members were in the Mi-17 series chopper that was crashed. The accident had occurred 10 kilometres away from the Wellington Army Centre and the rescue teams have been taking measures to rescue the people who were stranded under debris. The chopper has been charred and the billowing smoke has covered the area. As per the latest reports, more army officials have been rushed to the spot.
