'It's the biggest lie ever': PM Modi on Farm laws! Here are the highlights of what he said

The farmers from several parts of the country have been agitating in Delhi with the collective demand of repealing the three controversial farm laws and as the unprecedented protests of farmers have marked the 22nd straight day on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has for yet another time defended the farm laws and advocated the peasants that they won't face any issues with the MSP (Minimum Support Price).

The Prime Minister was addressing a state-level 'Kisan Kalyan' event in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district on Friday through video-conferencing during which he reiterated that he wants to ease the life of farmers and his address has signaled that the Center won't be repealing the farm laws. Narendra Modi has requested all the political parties to stop misguiding farmers on the farm laws and he claimed that games are being played for political gains.

The Prime Minister said, with folded hands, he was ready to discuss every issue with farmers and allay their fear and said that talk about the new law to dismantle the MSP for crops is the biggest lie ever. He was addressing the event as part of the government's drive to reach out to the farmers and the Prime Minister said, "If anyone has any concerns, then with our heads bowed and our hands folded, with humility, we are willing to discuss with them and allay their fears".

By citing that the agricultural reforms were discussed for over two decades by every government, Narendra Modi said that the opposition has been misleading the farmers. He stated, "These laws were not brought in overnight. In the past 22 years, every government, state has discussed these reforms in detail. Farmer groups, agricultural experts, economists, scientists, and progressive farmers have called for these reforms, and the parties opposing these laws today had promised these reforms in their manifestos".

He cited, "These parties are pained today and they are asking themselves how Modi could achieve what they couldn't do in all this time. They are worried Modi will get credit. My reply to them is let them take credit and I don't want that. I only want farmers' lives to improve and stop misleading farmers". "Today I want to expose those who have absolutely no care or genuine concern for you. I want to caution all those who are being misled and instigated in the name of these farm laws", the Prime Minister added.

Narendra Modi has placed his assurance and said, "Today, I want to bring their deeds in front of countrymen and farmers. I assure every farmer of the country that like MSP was given earlier, it will continue to be given, MSP will not be ended. Those who could not give MSP to farmers, they are misleading farmers over MSP". He further assured that the mechanism of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) will also continue even after the implementation of the farm laws.

The Prime Minister's assertions have come when the peasants have been intensifying the protests in Delhi to repeal the farm bills, which they say would threaten their lives and produce and would dismantle the grounds of MSP and would also pump in the private players in the agricultural sectors. As their protests have been continuously going on for the last three weeks, the protesting farmers have been supported by the opposition parties, several trade and labor unions, and activists as they unanimously demand the Center to abrogate the farm laws.
