'It's master's move': See how TNEB stood with Viswanathan Anand in his game!

Last Friday, The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has rescheduled the proposed time of the power shutdown in the Kotturpuram area in Chennai to ensure that Chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand won't be facing any disruption in power supply as he was preparing for his game at the quarterfinals of the Chess Olympiad, that held online.

In what has become one of the important supports that led the master to make his move, the reschedule in the timing has come after the timely intervention by Indian Chess team captain N Srinath and by officials from the state's electricity board. Viswanathan Anand was scheduled to play the quarterfinal game in the Chess Olympiad on Friday and his game was scheduled at the same time when Kotturpuram, where he lives, prepared to witness the power cut.

Viswanathan Anand had installed the adequate backups to meet the power cut and his opponent but, however, there was still worry on the possibilities of encountering any sort of disruptions. Speaking to an English news media, Anand's wife Aruna said that they had made alternative arrangements to get rid of any disruptions after they came to know that there was going to be a power cut in their locality and their building also had a generator as a backup.

However, he was preparing for the game with worry and after knowing the development, N Srinath, the non-playing captain of the Indian team had explored other plans to avoid any disruptions. Exactly, a day before the match, Srinath reached out to an official of the TANGEDCO and requested to restore the power supply before 5 pm on Friday with the view of letting Anand make his move with no distractions and disturbances.

Following Srinath's requests, Anand's home and locality had got the power supply by 2.30 pm on Friday as the electricity board had rescheduled the power supply and stood with the grandmaster in his match with conveying that he won't be facing any disruptions during the match. Anand's wife had thanked the officials of the electricity board and Srinath for taking the efforts. Anand went ahead with no disruption, played in Chess Olympiad and India had won the quarterfinals by defeating Armenia by one point.

According to the reports, Chess Olympiad is a biennial tournament which would usually be held offline, and owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's tournament had held online and teams from 163 countries had participated in the tournament.

As per the rules of the game, a player will be issued with a one-time warning for disruption in the internet connection for a duration of two minutes and the disruption occurs again, the player will be given a yellow card and the player will be issued with a red card if the disruption happens for the third time during the same game. On Sunday, India was declared as joint winners at the finals along with Russia. The efforts and support from the electricity board have been commended as their support had been one of the key players that made Anand go ahead with his move and taking the team to the finals.
