On the occasion of Subrata Roy's 75th birthday, a biopic on him, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar, has been announced by Dr Jayantilal Gada and Sandeep Singh. The film, titled Saharasri, will be directed by Sudipto Sen, who recently helmed, The Kerala Story. The film will chronicle the rise and fall of one of India’s most influential and dynamic business tycoons, who faced several allegations and controversies in his career.

The makers have not revealed the name of the actor who will portray Subrata Roy on screen, but they have confirmed that a top star will be roped in for the role. The film will also have a stellar crew, with music maestro AR Rahman composing the tunes and legendary lyricist Gulzar penning the words. The film is written by Rishi Virmani, Sudipto Sen and Sandeep Singh, who is also the creative producer.

Speaking about the project, Sudipto Sen said, “Directing a biopic is always a challenging job for any filmmaker. Having AR Rahman, Gulzar, Sandeep Singh and Dr Jayantilal Gada together for a film is something beyond big.” He added that he was fascinated by Subrata Roy’s life story, which reads like a Sidney Sheldon novel.

Sandeep Singh said that he had a high regard for Subrata Roy, who had gracefully faced all the allegations against him and had returned a staggering amount of Rs 25,000 crores to SEBI. He said that he had spent years researching for the script, which captivated stalwarts like Rahman and Gulzar to come on board.

He also said that many people were scared to be associated with the film, but his dream had finally come true. Dr Jayantilal Gada said that Subrata Roy’s story was untold and would leave the audience spellbound. He said that he had a clear vision of every scene when he heard the script, which kept him on the edge.
