It's official: TN Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to distribute Vijay's Varisu...But, not like Ajith's Thunivu!

Newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is all set to play a vital role in the upcoming neck-and-neck race between the two iconic Tamil actors Vijay and Ajith over the release of their movies. Vijay and Ajith are eagerly awaiting the release of their movies 'Varisu' and 'Thunivu' respectively and the flicks have been slated for the same day release during the Pongal occasion in January 2023.

While both the teams are pacing up their final production works, the typical clash between the fans of both the actors have recently escalated over the remarks from Varisu's producer Dil Raju who made a controversial comparison between both the actors. In a bombshell statement amid the trend of euphoria among the fans, Dil Raju said that Vijay is the biggest star in Tamil than Ajith.

His statement has come at the backdrop of the allocation of screens for both the movies during Pongal occasion. Varisu is produced by Dil Raju under his banner Sri Venkateswara Creations and will be distributed by Lalit Kumar's Seven Screen Studio in Tamil Nadu. On the other hand, Thunivu is produced by Boney Kapoor under his banner Bayview Projects and will be distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies, which has become a powerhouse in the movie distribution in the state.

Earlier, it was reported that the equal number of theatres will be given for both the movies to balance the expectations of the fans and makers. However, several reports cited that more number of theaters will be allotted for Ajith's Thunivu and fans claimed that it was due to the influence of Udhayanidhi Stalin. As the movies are approaching the release dates, Varisu producer Dil Raju is assaying to get more screens for his movie.

Dil Raju had stirred a controversy through his remarks, during an interview with a Telugu channel, stating that Vijay is the biggest star than Ajith in Tamil Nadu and said that he is going to meet and speak with Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding the issue. He said, "In Tamil Nadu, Ajith sir's film is coming out with my film. In Tamil Nadu, Vijay sir is the number one star and everybody knows that. There are about 800 screens in the state and I am begging them to give me more than 400 screens."

"I am requesting at least 50 more screens. This is business. Even though I have a big film, I have to beg for screens. It's not a monopoly, right?", he added. Dil Raju further said, "Red Giant Movies, Udhayanidhi Stalin sir is releasing Thunivu and I will soon go to Chennai and request him to provide me with more screens. Let's see, Vijay is bigger than Ajith. As a producer, I am requesting more screens for a Vijay film. Nobody in any other state will find it wrong."

His comments have put the fans of Vijay and Ajith in a war of words amid the expectation of a smooth release of the movies. While Dil Raju has divulged that he is going to meet Udhayanidhi Stalin, the latter's production house Red Giant Movies has jumped into the business of distributing Varisu and the official announcement was regarding the same was made on Saturday - December 17.

Red Giant Movies has joined Lalit Kumar's Seven Screen Studio to distribute Varisu in Tamil Nadu. On Saturday, Seven Screen Studio revealed its association with Udhayanidhi Stalin and taking to Twitter, it wrote, "We are making this a memorable Varisu Pongal for you! Happy to announce our TN distributors of Thalapathy Vijay sir's Varisu." The announcement has swiftly drawn attention and Udhayanidhi Stalin is all set to be a powerhouse in release of both the movies.

Though Red Giant Movies will release Varisu, it won't be in the same scale of distribution like Thunivu. While Red Giant Movies distributes Thunivu across Tamil Nadu, Seven Screen Studio has said that Udhayanidhi Stalin's banner will not distributing Varisu across Tamil Nadu but only in Chennai, Chengalpet, Coimbatore, North Arcot & South Arcot.

Meanwhile, Dil Raju opened up for the first time after making a controversial comparison between Vijay and Ajith. He said, "The media misrepresented my words after they saw a 15-second excerpt from the full interview. I've received a lot of hostile comments because of a statement that has been twisted out of all recognition. There is still matter prior to and behind it. Everyone will understand if you see it completely. I had mentioned many of Ajith and Vijay's pluses in the full interview."
