'It's unfortunate': Rahul Gandhi slams Congress leader for derogating BJP member! What's the issue?

Congress leader and former party's president Rahul Gandhi has, on Tuesday, castigated former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath over his derogatory remarks against a woman, who was BJP's candidate for the upcoming by-election in the state.

The reserved legislative constituency of Dabra in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh has been preparing to host the by-polls and both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress have been campaigning for the victory in the election. Former MP Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who is also the head of Madhya Pradesh Congress, was addressing the campaign meeting on Sunday in Dabra.

During his address, Kamal Nath had compared the qualities of his party's candidate Suresh Raje and BJP's candidate Imarti Devi. The latter was a Congress member and she quitted the party and joined BJP. In his address to the campaign, Kamal Nath said that Congress candidate Suresh Raje is a simple man and he is not like Imarti Devi. The former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader went on to brand Imarti Devi as an item.

The term item was used to label a sensual woman and after Kamal Nath spitted such a word, it had stirred outrage and controversies from and beyond the state. BJP leaders in Madhya Pradesh led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a protest against Kamal Nath on Monday and the National Commission for Women had issued a notice and sought an explanation from Kamal Nath.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan had written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and urged her to condemn Kamal Nath for the latter's derogatory remarks and the incumbent Chief Minister had asked the Congress President to remove Kamal Nath from all the party posts. Along with Chouhan, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati had asked the Dalit voters to teach a lesson to the Congress party for the remark.  BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, who divorced Congress, and joined the Central ruling party had also held protests against Kamal Nath.

Imarti Devi, who was at the receiver end of Kamal Nath's remarks, had staunchly attacked the former Chief Minister and asked Sonia Gandhi that whether she tolerate if such a remark is made against her daughter. As Kamal Nath has been caught at the center of the controversies that would damage the Congress Party in the by-polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and on Monday castigated Kamal Nath for his derogatory remarks.

According to ANI, Rahul Gandhi said that he didn't like the type of language used. He stated, "Kamal Nath is from my party but, personally, I don't like the type of language used. I don't appreciate it and it is unfortunate". The Congress leader's castigation has come at a high time when Kamal Nath has been facing trouble from the opposition over his remark. However, Kamal Nath had maintained that he had never disrespected anyone and both Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP are finding false issues against him.
